Cost of catering staff/servers per hour?

Anastasia, on August 3, 2015 at 1:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 1

We just received a quote from our caterer. Food prices are good and I think the quote is relatively fair after having received other quotes (for food only, we were not previously looking for service)...however, I was a little shocked at the price they were charging for the service. They were assigning 4 staff to work for 5 hours, for a total of $850 (before taxes, this is included in the amount that we would be taxed on). That means that each individual server is making $42.5 per hour.

I'm not throwing any shade at servers, as I think that they work hard and the job is often thankless. But it does seem a bit high to me...am I wrong? I presume we'd be expected to tip like any other server, at 15-20 %. That brings the total to $1020 for 4 servers, or a little over $50 per hour per person. Is this right? Maybe I'm in the wrong line of business Smiley winking

How does this compare to other ladies' quotes? We do live in the suburbs of a major metro area.

I think what i was seeing it was pretty much around 30-35 an hour per server, so its a little on the high side. does your contract have an additional gratuity? or you pay gratuity optional? ( i am near Boston)
