We just received a quote from our caterer. Food prices are good and I think the quote is relatively fair after having received other quotes (for food only, we were not previously looking for service)...however, I was a little shocked at the price they were charging for the service. They were assigning 4 staff to work for 5 hours, for a total of $850 (before taxes, this is included in the amount that we would be taxed on). That means that each individual server is making $42.5 per hour.
I'm not throwing any shade at servers, as I think that they work hard and the job is often thankless. But it does seem a bit high to me...am I wrong? I presume we'd be expected to tip like any other server, at 15-20 %. That brings the total to $1020 for 4 servers, or a little over $50 per hour per person. Is this right? Maybe I'm in the wrong line of business
How does this compare to other ladies' quotes? We do live in the suburbs of a major metro area.
