Corset or strapless bra?

Pasqua, on February 11, 2019 at 8:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

I've got a year until the wedding but I want to make sure I plan ahead! I found and purchased a dress for my wedding- and the dress was a surprise! I never expected to go for a strapless gown but here I am. Below is a picture of the dress I purchased. I am 38DD, and have ALWAYS had a problem with strapless bras. They are not flattering on me at all and I always have to struggle with them.

I feel like a corset might be a better route to go because there would be more support in the structure. Lets be honest...I would love for my bust to be lifted and not sad! I also don't mind getting alterations for the bust to be tighter, I've found its made support much easier for me...

Has anyone used a corset instead of a strapless bra? What advice can you give this busty girl? And beyond that, what products did you find to work the best and where can I look for a great corset that is for support and not for the honeymoon?

They could always sew cups into the dress so you wouldn't have to mess with a strapless bra...but if you are looking for more support in the waist area as well, you may want to pursue a corset as you have mentioned. I really don't know anything about those, so I hope someone else can chime in! Good luck!

I'm using a corset and it does not lift or support my chest. I am small busted so it's okay but I read several reviews that pointed this out. What made my dress secure was actually very knowledgeable bust alterations.

I'd browse online reviews for corset styles you'd consider, it's likely someone will comment on how supportive that style is.

Any over-bust corset you get will show in that dress. The v in the front is too low. I'm not a fan of strapless bras either, they don't give much support. But, this is my second marriage, and at my first wedding I wore a strapless bra and it worked great since the dress was so structured and pretty tight at the top. Nothing moved. But, I also think a strapless bra will show in this dress too.

I wear corsets all of the time for fashion so I have good experience with them. Are you used to wearing them? The good ones take time getting use to. And they take a few weeks of wearing them every day (the right way) to break in and form to your body. But, even if you do that, you might be really uncomfortable wearing them on your wedding day. They are very restrictive and can cause you to feel lightheaded if you're not use to them.

I'm a 34DD and while I love corsets, they don't make your boobs look nice worn under dresses. The boning flattens the bottom of them and smooshes them in. You get that nice full look at the top though.

Either way, I think you might need a tailor to add a modesty panel to the front if you want to wear any type of bra with that.

But, if you do want to try a corset, I love https://www.orchardcorset.com/ They are amazing to work with. You can send them your measurements and what you're looking for and they'll recommend styles for you. I ordered one based on their recommendations and I wasn't satisfied with the fit. So I sent them pictures of me in it, and they said I was "squishier" in the middle so that I could actually go down a size. And they have tons of helpful videos of how to wear them, how to break them in properly, etc. You should send them a picture of your dress, your measurements, and a picture of you in a fitted top and ask for suggestions. They'll be able to hep you.

Another option is this, and this is what I'm using:

It's not a bra as a much as it's a bra contraption. It works surprisingly well it just takes some time to adjust for you. And I've found tons of reviews online from real women not just sponsors. It seems to support all boob types. Also, the lady who made this is very helpful as well. If you're really struggling, she'll even do a facetime chat with you to help you figure it out.

Good luck! I know this struggle well!

I am a 36G and I wear a corseted Renaissance dress, have done corsets in Civil War and other eras and they do NOT push up the bust.

The girls in those images have taping and then makeup over said tape, and or fake breasts( says the former lingerie model). I would do a sewn in bra, and or maybe use on that has the straps that fits and works well- the seamstress can put in some lifting material under it to help prop up if you want.
But remember dancing, bending over and hugging people can cause spillage of you are too “happy”....
