Correct Addressing

RG3, on January 25, 2018 at 3:43 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

We have friends that will be getting married 2 weeks before us. How do I address their invitation? Mr. and Mrs. ______ or Mr. _____ and Ms. _____. I don't think the whole The Future Mr and Mrs. ____ thing works on a wedding invitation - seems rather informal.

Since your invitations will go out before they actually get married, I would just address it with their current names. We got married 6 weeks before friends of ours and that’s how they addressed the invites. We RSVP’d as Mr. and Mrs. though.

I would do future Mr and Mrs as long as she is taking his last name

I don’t think putting “future” is informal, IMO. My friends wedding was black tie and they put that on our invite and even on their seating chart. I liked it! It got me excited for my wedding.

I have a friend getting married in a few weeks. About a month before us and I addressed it to Mr. And Mrs. Because I think it'll make her smile from ear to ear. And possibly be the first time she sees it on mail.

We addressed them to their unmarried names, since they were not married when the invitations went out. On our seating chart and thank you’s, we used their married names.

I would love to see the Future Mrs. Clifton on an invite. But I don't think they are going to think too much about it. It doesn't seem to me. But also, do make sure she is changing her name to his.

We just received an invitation as the future Mr and Mrs Rossi- I was thrilled, it's exciting when other people acknowledge your upcoming wedding in my opinion. We also mailed out 2 addressed to the future Mr and Mrs- I don't really think it's informal, that's what they're going to be addressed as in the future... I would just make sure she's planning to use his last name.

I recently received the future Mrs. and while I think it looks nice and was formal they are obviously assuming I'm changing my last name which I'm not even sure if I am yet! So unless you know for a fact I would go w and Mr. X and Ms.X

I think "Future Mr. and Mrs." is appropriate. We've received wedding invitations addressed that way and I plan to address a couple that way too.

Thanks for bringing this up! We have friends getting married exactly a month before us and I wasn't sure either. I know she's changing her name so maybe I'll go with the "future" thing also. But as others said, you can always ask, they'll probably appreciate the fact that you cared to clarify.

I was recently addressed as future mrs. Hernandez and it made me really happy (maybe I’m lame) but I really appreciated it

I agree with the future, it makes you really happy. Our friends got married about a year before us but the invitation still said to the Future Mr. and Mrs. and I was still really excited even though our wedding was still over a year away.
