Corona and Flowers?

Michelle, on March 18, 2020 at 8:01 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 7
Since my initial florist from Kroger was being shady, we parted ways. Instead, I made an appt. two weeks out from a friend’s florist from another Kroger. She told me he was awesome and knew how to work your vision in a budget, like $20-30 centerpieces. I waited long because he told me a new florist director starts that day.

So yesterday I call for my appt. as habit just in case. Turns out he’s on vacation until Monday...so I think he forgot our appointment so the lady said I could meet with her. So I drive over there and it was completely pointless.
This lady sounded like Eeyore the donkey, and she did not care at all about my wants. She didn’t even try to look at my inspiration and she said that the smallest centerpieces would cost $70 and there’s no way it’s $20-30. I said I wanted the cheapest flowers, I just cared for the colors. I told her other Kroger’s quoted me around the $20ish range and she said there’s no way. I tried showing her photos and she barely looked at it. To make matters worst, she’s the new director of floral. She may have been mad due to corona because I tried calling another Kroger florist and we made an appt. but then she cancelled because she said due to corona all the florals will close now.
I was disappointed, no way Kroger charges $70 min. for flowers! I Have to make a decision by next week because of another floral company called FlowerMan. They give great customer service and worked with my vision. They will give me a quote by Sunday and I have 1-2 days to book to keep a 30% discount (800 for 15 centerpieces, bouquets, etc.). It is DIY party with a coach before the wedding so it’s well within my budget but I wanted to avoid troubling my bridal party with taking time off to arrange flowers for a few hours and then rehearsal on a different day....depending on the venues availability, I can’t control the rehearsal date.
Would you go ahead and just take the DIY flower company or wait to see if Kroger has flowers within same pricing to avoid troubling your wedding party? I have no idea how long this coronavirus will last to know Kroger’s quote.

I Think You Should Wait For The Quote And Then Decide Based On Whatever The Price Range Is.

Have you met with any actual florist? DIY can be very stressful. We had a florist for our wedding and she really wasn't overly expensive. The money was well worth not having the headache of DIY or chasing around grocery store flowers.

Our biggest expense was that we wanted to rent an arbor from her to get married under, but then flowers themselves were pretty reasonable. See if you can find a nice small business florist. They're usually willing to work with you and add a personal touch.

All the florists I've met with quoted me about $****. The Flowerman is a florist, I was quoted around $800 if I book with the discount. They do flowers but you also have the option of DIY which is what they're known for. At the consultation we went through types of flowers and color, there's a coach that walks you through how to put arrangements together with your group, kind of like a class setting. They have great reviews and a friend who told me about it said it was really fun. Check them out! https://www.facebook.com/flowermancolumbus/

If I don't make a decision when I receive my quote, it'd be another $300. I have no idea how long the floral departments at Kroger is shut down for though. I think for about 3 weeks....

Ohhh I see. That is kind of cool that they teach you how to do it. I've never even heard of this concept before.

I'd forget about Kroger at this point.

From the disrespect alone, I would forget Kroger and go with the company that gives good customer service and is happy to work with you. Even if it’s a little more than what Kroger would actually want to charge you. I think supporting a business that treats their customers well is worth the extra expense.
