Cord of three strands ceremony, your thoughts or insight please.....

MrsMoBright, on April 19, 2015 at 3:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

We are doing "the cord of three strands ceremony" in our wedding instead of unity candles or a sand ceremony. Because of the biblical scriptures it illustrates, Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 I believe it will be perfect for us. However, I've never seen it done at any of the weddings I've attended. We are working out the details of our ceremony and how exactly we will incorporate the braiding of three strands into it. Are any of you ladies doing this or have have you seen it at a wedding? If so please share your thoughts or insight, thanks.

We're doing this as well and have incorporated a reading. Our officiant is very helpful in this aspect. I suggest speaking with your officiant. However, I found this link so you can see how this couple incorporated it into their ceremony.

We are doing a cord of 3 strands ceremony. I saw it at a wedding we attended this past summer. They had the cords hanging on a wooden sign that had the verse painted on it. I liked the way they did it because the couple braided it together. We will be doing something similar, and my FH and FFIL will be making the sign out of barn wood from FH's grandfather's farm. I am not sure how I want to put the verse on the sign yet, but it will be nice to have something to hang on our wall after the wedding.

We are also doing the cord of three, along with having the verse read at our ceremony.

FutureMrsW- We want to do the wooden sign too, but the listing I found on Etsy was like $100, which I think is way overpriced. Think FH and FFIL would want to make two and sell one? Lol... but really...

My brother and SIL did this--the only thing I would add is to make sure you know who is holding the end and who is braiding, and if you are switching partway through. Also, make sure the person braiding knows how to braid lol

MrsMB thanks for bringing this up, I've heard of this and I liked it. I think it would be beautiful in your ceremony. I have considered this over unity candle/sand. I'm going to check out Kit's and other ladies links to help me decide THIS WEEK what I'd need to purchase and where to put in our compactSmiley smile ceremony.

I've thought about this for our ceremony. I really didn't want to do the unity sand/candle thing. And we both want to incorporate the scripture in our ceremony. But looking at Kit's link, I wonder if the cords can be knotted in the middle, held by the officiate or some kind of way (we each have a child that can hold it) & the bride and groom can both braid each end as the scripture is read.

Thanks ladies for your thoughts and insight. I'm going to use a gold shadow box to display the cord and the card that explains the verse and what the cord represents. It will be set up on a decorated table during the ceremony and then we're going to add a picture of us inside along with the braided cord and card to display in our home.
