Cookie bar

Kayla , on February 13, 2018 at 10:10 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10
Anyone ever did a cookie bar for dessert? We will be serving a full meal as well as appetizers before dinner, but we are not really cake people and we feel like the cake would get wasted. So we thought of getting a smaller cake and then doing a cookie bar with a variety of cookies to choose from.

If you are cutting a cake, you need to offer all your guests cake.

If you feed each other a cookie instead, go ahead and have your cookie bar. Nothing wrong with that.

A cookie table is a tradition said to originate in Southwestern Pennsylvania, where in place of or in addition to a wedding cake, a large table with different cookies is presented to guests

My fiancé doesn’t like regular cake either so at our wedding we’re habing a cheesecake for our “cutting of the cake” then having an ice cream sundae bar for everyone. A cookie bar sounds awesome too though Smiley smile

I am originally from SW Pennsylvania. As PP said, cookie tables are very common. We are having one at our NV wedding but we are also having a cake. IMO, if you have cake, everyone needs to have the option of having cake too.

I love all cake but my fiancé only likes very sweet cake so we will have a cake with one super sweet layer and 2 middle of the road layers. We're having other desserts also but I agree that you should offer cake to all of your guests if you are cutting a cake.

I disagree with what several people have said regarding cake. If you have a small cake (perhaps for photo opportunities or just to cut it for you two) you DO NOT have to serve it to everyone. It’s your wedding, give them cookies. Personally, I’d prefer a cookie bar to a cake because wedding cakes usually aren’t that good tbh.

Thank you everyone. We have cakes at every birthday party and they literally get thrown away, but this past year we did cookies and not a crumb left. I figure the cake will be more for photo opps and such and then cookies for everyone else.

If you slice the small cake and have it available to guests along with the cookies, you're good!

^^^^^this, for those of you who state that you shouldn't offer the cake to anyone but yourselves, you are going to be perceived by some as rude. I know I look forward to wedding cake when I attend a wedding and if I saw that it was there but I "couldn't" have any it would irritate me.

I love the idea of a cookie bar, cookies are my favorite & we will be doing cookies, cupcakes, and a cake for a cake topper and for guests to have if they prefer over the cupcakes.
