Contract help!

Bailee, on October 30, 2020 at 6:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Any advice on what to make sure is included in contracts? I asked all of my potential vendors to send a blank one or a proposal to give me time to go over it and have my fiancé, as well as any of the others that may be contributing for their input (haven’t done that yet). But I’m not really sure what I’m looking for if I’m being honest. I have only gotten three so far. Thanks in advance 💕

Check that everything included in the package (such as, chairs and tables at venue, or engagement photos, second shooter, 8 hours of time on wedding day, photo album, and digital photo files for photographer) is clearly spelled out in the contract. Timing/hours hired, postponement/cancellation/COVID policies, deposit information, timing after the event for any deliverables (photos, video, etc) and what format they will be delivered in, backup/emergency plans (ie, hair stylist gets sick: will they send someone else in their place? Or just refund?), pricing, etc.

I checked what was included, cancelation policy (not only you but also them), rules/guidelines, price/hidden fees (someone recently posted about their venue raising the price after they signed the contract but in the contract it is listed as being allowed so they have to pay it). As far as the venue I made sure there was something in there if the venue was unusable/destroyed (fire, tornado, etc)
I carefully read through the entire thing and made I understood. If anything seems weird or off ask about it. If there is something you want changed or added ask!
My photographer told me it would take 4 weeks to get our pictures but it wasn’t in his contract. I had him add it. He add something like approximately 4 weeks to still cover himself, but it made me feel better after hearing stories on here where some couple have waited MONTHS for them. I got them in 5 weeks 🤷‍♀️

Idk when your wedding is but due to the current climate, definitely a good cancellation/postponement clause, and a clause that says they cannot increase prices. A quick email to a lawyer would help with this

Make sure that before the wedding, you do not need final numbers before 21 days out. A lot of guests do not get work vacation or day off info, or school info, making it clear they have a day off weeked work, o classes they yeach or jave exams on, etc, until 4 weeks/ 28 days
And will not give you a definite RSVP date even over the phone ( no mail delay) until 23-25 days out.
Many places want an exact number 4-7 weeks in advance, and want the right to require you gi e the maximum number then, and pay that amount of meals, seats, drinks, cake and corking fees, even though you can only guesshow many people you will have until 25-28 days. ... A lot of people sign contracts saying they will tell final numbers 5-8 weeks out, and figure, I will just set an early RSVP date. But if you give people no choice before they know, they will all say , coming. And after giving numbers, will call fays or weeks later to take this person or that off, or cancel completely. You are the one paying for 30 uneaten meals or whatever. Do not sign now for something you will regret later. The time to make sure of any notice issues is before you sign the contract. Venues do need to know earlier, ballpark figures. Not exact numbers.
