Considering Open Bar

Sarah, on June 24, 2019 at 9:09 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10
Hello!

My FH and I are planning a wedding for about 100 guests. Does anyone know around how much an open bar runs for that amount of people?

Or does anyone have any ideas on how to moderate guest consumption?

Thanks in advance!

It depends on your venue. Our venue was going to charge $20 per hour per person, which is obviously absurd... we just paid on consumption, and we had a limit on how much could be consumed on our tab before the bar turned into a cash bar. It lasted until like the last hour of the reception which was great. Would have been nice to be able to pay for drinks the whole time but, we put in all we could afford.

Generally people drink 2 drinks the first hour and one drink for every hour after. Some will drink more some less but you know your crowd best. As far as price it depends if you can bring in your own alcohol or not and what type of alcohol you’re serving. Two buck chuck and bud light will be a lot cheaper than a craft IPA and a local wine.

It typically depends on your venue and their packages. Here in MD our venue is charging $3100 for a 4 hour open call bar for 100 people.

I have read is about 4 to 5 drinks per person. This is just an estimate as some would drink more while others would drink less or none at all. As far as price I don’t know I guess it depends on the type of alcohol you provide.

Totally depends. Ours was $20 over the dinner price for a top shelf open bar 3 hour reception. Which is insanely low I think.

It depends on the venue and your location. We are in NY and paying $37pp for 5 hours of open bar. They can drink all they want for that set price per person.

It really depends on your venue. You could always offer just beer & wine. Our open bar is $29 per guest for 5 hours.

We are also doing open bar. for us it was an additional $20 per person. i recently went to a wedding where it was beer and wine and signature cocktails, but someone had to leave the wedding bc they ran out. so if you decide to bring in alcohol based on consumption i would be safe and over estimate.
