Lynne, on April 14, 2022 at 11:15 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 16
My wedding party have specific colors. Is it rude if I ask guests not to wear those colors?

Idk if I'd say it's rude but I personally don't like it. Adults don't need to be told what colors they can and can't wear, they can make their own decisions.

I agree - I wouldn't ask - it comes off wrong even if you don't mean it to I have noticed.

Also - if I did that I think half my family would wear that color to mess me with me Smiley smile

True, I think I'm just trying not to stress out. I still have a lot to do but slowly running out of time.

I know that. I was only asking out of a little stress.

Guests are not props. They can and do dress themselves appropriately

Use those colors for the invitations. If you do that, many people will get the hint that those are the bridesmaid colors and they'll deliberately avoid them.

Why do you not want a guest to wear those colors? How would that impact your day?

I recently went to a wedding and wore the same exact shade as the bridesmaids. Whoops. No one mistook me for a bridesmaid and it really wasn't a big deal.

I don’t think I would dictate the colors your guests should/shouldn’t wear. It’s really not a big deal if someone shows up in the same color as your bridesmaids – no one is going to be confused about who is in the wedding party.

Greetings everyone! I wish I could edit this post but because I posted it while being mobile I can't edit it. So, I am leaving this here to let you all know that I wrote it out of stress. I just want my guests comfortable. I truly don't care what colors they wear, well maybe except for neon (HA HA HA HA)

You don’t need to worry because it’s a valid question that many have so you aren’t the first to wonder. Most people are doing this for the first/only time and don’t have anyone else to walk them through so everyone asks for help when they need. Nothing wrong with that at all.

I completely understand your frustration. I have had family members & others ask what's our colors so that they can match us? And I'm like "why would you want to match the wedding party". I feel like it's rude for people to want to match the wedding party. I don't like the ideal of looking out at the crowd & everyone is in the same color. This is not a high school or sporting event. I think your wedding party should stand out from the crowd!

Thank you for that. I asked one of my bridesmaids the same question but she said she didn't know because her bridal party work black dresses.

I do want them to stand out from the rest of the crowd. I think they will stand out, I don't know how my guests will dress we are all pretty laid back and normally don't dress up much.
