confused about dress size

So I have been taking my measurements lately since I'll be staying dress shopping soon and I'm totally lost. I have done research on how to do it but yet it keeps telling me I would be in a size 16! So I have been taking my measurements lately since I'll be staying dress shopping soon and I'm totally lost. I have done research on how to do it but yet it keeps telling me I would be in a size 16! This can't be right. I'm 5'4 144lbs size 7 jeans but that's just cuz I have a lot of muscle. Yes I know there's probably 30% fat but I just can't fathom being that high in dress sizes.

Am I do something wrong?? PLEASE HELP Smiley sad

    Please do not think about the number of the size of your dress - it doesn't mean a damn thing, and you can just cut it out when it arrives!

    Agree that they go by your largest measurement, and if you're on the edge, they err on the side of caution and go up a size. Hence, my BFF who wears an 8-10 IRL had to order a size 18 BM dress to guarantee fit in the hips! On the other hand, I am hourglass, and only had to go up 2 sizes from my streetclothes. So if you're slim-hipped perhaps you end up with the opposite problem.
