Conflicted

Tiffany, on August 22, 2020 at 3:27 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 13
I’m so torn with the no dancing in NY and I really don’t want to have a reception if we aren’t aloud to dance 💔 but I’m also afraid we can’t get our money back if we cancel our wedding. We are due to get married October 24,2020

Would your venue/vendors be willing to let you postpone instead of cancel?

Can you postpone the wedding until next year? You could always still legally get married on that day if the date has significance

Honestly, they can’t stop you from dancing. What are they going to do kick you out of your own wedding? Have you spoken to your venue? Do you know how strict they are about no dancing? Even if you just have to sign a waiver. This is just getting out of hand Have you spoken to your venue? Do you know how strict they are about no dancing? Even if you just have to sign a waiver. This is just getting out of hand. I mean come on even if everyone just stands at their tables and just stands up from their chair and dances it’s no different than them sitting down and eating a meal.

NYS rules have been heartbreaking for us as well. The no dancing policy really takes away from the whole experience, and I swear they're trying to take all the joy out of life. We decided to cut our night short at the venue, and have an after party at our house where people can mingle and dance as much as they want. I don't want to get the venue in trouble, and potentially ruin it for future weddings. (That's what we've been seeing happen if rules aren't followed). I would talk to your venue, tell them how you're feeling, and see what they can do for you. Some vendors are really understanding and willing to work with you, and others are being unfairly harsh during this tough time. We're getting married the day before you, and honestly I'm nervous they're going to shut everything down again. It's made planning so miserable. Hopefully everything works out for you, best of luck!

I would definitely talk to your venue and see if you can either postpone completely (with them, you can still get married somewhere else that day if you want to) or ask them about having a ceremony there this year and the reception at some point in the future. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this for your actual wedding. We got married this year but we have a new, 2021 date for the reception and we've already agreed that we'll postpone that part again if dance floors and/or bars (we're in MA) are still banned at that point.

    Yes, they can.

The venue can lose their license or be fined heavily for allowing this.

NY was hardest hit by this pandemic, and the restrictions are in place for a reason.

OP, can you pivot to games or other entertainment? Will the venue allow you to postpone, as they cannot legally fulfill your contract?

Games like corn hole aren't even allowed in NY. Neither is karaoke, bands, etc. We have a dictator running the state lol

I have heard of people doing the shoe game, or other types of games along those lines to keep everyone entertained.

Games like corn hole require a lot of shared equipment and congregating, which is why they are banned. Cuomo is listening to the health experts.

I would suggest trivia games or things like that, which can be done from individual tables.

Crazy to see the VMAs in NYC and celebrities able to dance in doors with their whole dance crews yet brides still can’t.
