So I've been battling acne since my late teens... I'm now approaching 40 & it's still my nemesis. I've been using Tretinoin cream for YEARS & it does "help". So I've been battling acne since my late teens... I'm now approaching 40 & it's still my nemesis.

I've been using Tretinoin cream for YEARS & it does "help". I also take birth control to keep hormones in check. I asked my doctor for an antibiotic to help me have a higher chance of a clear face & body for the wedding (3 months away)

She prescribed doxycycline 100mg twice a day (I tried doxy years ago & don't recall having too much luck)

This month my face has been a WRECK. Big, deep, painful zits... reminiscent of my college complexion!!

4 days into doxy & my face, chest, and back are still erupting.

The doctor said to check back in a month, and that if the doxy didn't help, we'll try something else.

So.

Do any of y'all have similar issues?? PCOS and whatever other weirdness I have that's making me so acne-prone....

Any suggestions to try if the doxy doesn't do it??

I don't want to look gross on my wedding day!!!

Using any astringent or brush on your skin will also make it worse. Fyi.

I have had the same problem. I finally found some relief with soap and glory facial products. There washes have been a life saver for my skin. Its hard to find in my area, so I have to order online. But very affordable and has worked great for me.

I did a round of accutane when I was 18. It really did improve my skin and I didn't have the worst acne. It was all under my skin, so though it wasn't red, cystic acne it was still embarrassing and I was very self conscious about it. I will say that accutane worked very well, but it chapped my lips so bad they were always bleeding. This lasted a few months after my round was done, too. It really cleared up my body acne, which I remember making me feel so poor that I would avoid dresses or shirts with low or exposed backs. So talk to your doctor if you are interested, but know it is a serious regimen.

I know this is an old post but how did your doxycycline end up working for you before your wedding?
