Committing to a photographer

iris, on May 13, 2019 at 5:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
Hi everyone I’m having so much fun with wedding planning and all but I just can’t seem to commit to a wedding photographer! I’ve talked to many that have nice work and prices within my budget but I just can’t choose one just yet. I’m not sure I just feel like well what if I find some one better with a better price. I’m also going to a bridal expo next month so I don’t know if I should wait to commit until after the expo Incase I win a photography package lol. I know this is unlikely but just saying to keep my options open. My wedding isn’t until June 2020. Did anybody have this same problem? Please help

I am having the same exact problem! I am April 2020! If you are going to an expo I’d wait because you may find someone you like there and most time they offer a discounted rate if you found them through a bridal expo! Everyone has told me once I find one I like and pick, to stop searching. That way I’m not going money crazy and get upset if I find someone a little cheaper.

I cant relate exactly. Our photographer was the first thing we booked. We even booked our date around when she was free.

I had a similar problem with DJs. I compliled a list, and even contacted one. But chose to wait til after a bridal expo. We met our DJ at the bridal expo, they had a lower price and a few "extras" that sent them straight to the top of the list and we booked them that night.

I can totally relate. Photographer was the first thing I looked into after securing our date & venue. I’m not kidding when I say I contacted well over 20 photographers and it was SO difficult. Most were in the same price point and had very similar styles of work, so it came down to what style of work really stood out and the package offered for the price.

Thank you for your response. I’m also worried because the expo I’m attending is a couple hours from where our wedding will be. Did you find that most vendors were willing to travel or was it all local?

    I booked local vendors.
I know our photographer and officiant were willing to travel. But we would have been footing the travel bill as well.

I know exactly how you feel! Part of me is perfectly content with booking a decent photographer at a good price and calling it a day. Another part of me is wishfully thinking that I'll magically find an amazing photographer for a steal. I think I'm going to just go with option A and feel good checking another item off my list. The extra money could be always be spent elsewhere.

We had that dilemma for a short while, lots of photographers within our budget, and who had good work. What it came down to for us is how we clicked with each one personally. Also, a couple of the ones we were considering were really bad about answering emails, returning phone calls for information/questions, so I dropped those right away. But then we met a couple of others in person. One clicked with us WAY more than the others, so she's the one we hired! I'm so glad we did too! She has been amazing with communication, and she's always so sweet when I talk to her, and she seems genuinely excited for us. We just had our engagement photo session last Sunday, and it was so much fun!! I love this photographer!!

If anyone is in CA, and looking for someone amazing, I would highly recommend Simple Joie Photography. You won't regret it!!

I agree, if you're having a hard time choosing, look for the one who you click with personality-wise. Even the best photographer out there may not get the best photos of you if you don't "click." I'm also a big proponent of going with your gut, too. If you find the right guy, you don't keep looking, right? Once you find a photographer you click with that's in your budget and available on your date, snag them up and stop looking! If you look for too long, you run the risk of the ones you do like accepting other jobs on your date.
