So. We arent getting married (reasons but thats for another day), so we are having a commitment ceremony instead of a legal wedding. We are struggling with the wording and how to open the ceremony. A commitment ceremony is just like a wedding but not legal in any shape fo the word. We don't want a long drawn out thing (shoot, our vows are only like 4 sentences long lol) so "dearly beloved we are gathered here today..." is too formal and too much. We have googled our fingers off and just can't seem to find "it". You know it. THE it. Something short and sweet. But more than "hey guys! So here we are! Repeat after me ..." something along the lines of "hey yall, were here to celebrate a and d and their commitment to one another.....???????" But what else do we have our officiant (d's brother who is by no means anything official lol) say?
