Commitment Ceremony due to Covid-19

As a lot people going through hardships because of the circumstances in our world today it has definitely made life interesting.

My fiancé and I need some advice possibly from those who are experiencing similar situations.
We planned our wedding ceremony (only) June 7th. (San Diego County, CA) Staying hopefully and positive to keep our date. We stayed in touch everyone involved from guests, venue, vendors, officiant...etc. We contacted the county clerks office May 1st when we knew they were opening communications via email and by phone because our concerns regarding our marriage license was high priority. We were instructed to email our application two weeks prior (the week of May 25th to be exact words) to get an appointment to get our license. We were also told that doing this would be ok to keep our June 7th date because they told us the process and appointment would be inbetween the time we submitted our application (May25th) and our date (June 7th).
So we were extremely hopeful!! We submitted our application as instructed only to be told that we would NOT get an appointment until July 2nd or 10th?! This news hit us hard!!
So now since we are also moving out of state at the end June (already booked) we are at a loss of what to do.
Does any one know about commitment ceremonies? Can we have a commitment ceremony still on June 7th then once we move we can then legally get married at a courthouse once things have opened? Does this sound like a good idea since we are having a small ceremony gathering and we have family members that want to witness (via streaming) our special day before their health prevents them to? And our date is 11 days away??
Any advice would truly be appreciated!!

Have your ceremony as planned. Due to the circumstances I'm sure everyone would understand that you are unable to have the legal side officialized. When you move, you can go to the courthouse and have a nice celebration afterwards. You could even dress up again and take photos with the license to show everyone.

You could still have a ceremony. I would talk to whoever is officiating about your change in circumstances since they won’t be legally marrying you at that time. They might want to adjust some of the wording. You could still have a ceremony honouring your relationship and commitment to each other in front of friends and family.

I absolutely agree. We're in the midst of an epidemic, I think people are going to be very understanding that you can't go forward with the legal side of things, but that doesn't mean you can't have your wedding! Absolutely communicate with your officiant beforehand so they understand what you expect of them and then go to a Justice of the Peace another day to finalize the legal aspects.
