Combining Cell Phone Plans

Lauren, on April 23, 2019 at 10:12 AM Posted in Married Life 0 15

How did you decide what provider to go with when combining cell phone plans? I have Verizon and am still on my parents' plan, and FH has his own plan with AT&T. I love Verizon, but FH got a new iPhone in December that he is still paying on, which makes the situation a little more sticky. I'm not really opposed to switching providers but have always had great experiences with Verizon so it's hard for me to want to leave them. FH is okay with either one, but since he is still paying on his iPhone, we assumed he'd have to pay that off before we could switch. We're obviously going to check pricing with both options, but I was just wondering if anyone else has gone through this too!

My FH had Verizon on his parents plan and moved onto my AT&T plan once we moved in together. He was able to transfer his number over so the process was super easy and he was able to get a brand new phone. It was cheaper to add him to my plan than both of us starting a new plan.

I was on my own Sprint plan when H and I got married, and we recently moved my account onto his parents plan, which has saved us $60 a month. I will say that Verizon is obviously the best phone provider, but they are significantly more expensive than other providers, at least in my experience.

My husband was on Verizon on a plan with his mom and sister and I was on AT&T. We switched him to AT&T because I always had service in places he didn’t. He was able to keep his number but had to get a new phone. It’s been a couple years so I can’t remember exactly but I wanna say AT&T gave him a credit for switching. He had recently gotten a new iPhone as well and we didn’t have to wait until he paid it off.

I’m on my parents At and t plan, FH is on his own plan on t mobile and he is going to switch to At and t with me. We will get our own plan. Our parents live in the country and At and t is the only brand that we haven’t had any trouble with. He has signal problems all the time in our hometown.

We switched right before we moved in together 11yrs ago lol.. I had T mobile and him AT&T... we switched to his, I didn’t even think about it... both networks are great... I had my own plan as well but I found it easier to go under his... later I was so glad I did because I got a new job and they gave me 30% of my monthly bill because of the job I had. And now 11yrs later, we still have AT&T... and now we pay about $100 for both plans with everything unlimited because of my job lol..

I was on a family plan with AT&T and FH had his own Verizon plan. I switched over to his since we wanted to have one together and he loves Verizon. I could take my phone and number, so it was easy.

As far as phone plans, we both have Verizon so we’ll be going together into one of our plans.

Our approach to combining accounts overall is to start this after my name is officially changed, but we’re already taking stock of what accounts we have and what we can combine. And where it makes sense to move one person over. He will be moving into my health insurance because it’s better and I pay less. I’ll be moving my car into his insurance eventually because it’s a better discount and our home insurance is with the same company. We might have to wait on the car insurance though because I switched from an out of state license a few years ago and the state seems to think that means I’ve only been driving for 3 years (super annoying because it’s been 14) and my car insurance has my old out of state info they based my rate off of.

FH and I both had AT&T with our parents so we just stuck with that. For the most part it works when I need it to and most of the plans we were looking at were comparable in price. I also have internet with AT&T (we only have AT&T and Spectrum in our area and Spectrum raised my rates $20/year every year where I ended up spending more for slower internet with them) so I was able to "bundle" the 2 plus a discount through work. I think for the most part, they are all pretty much the same and equally as frustrating...pick your poison.

We’re going to do this soon and I’ll probably have to switch to sprint. I guess it’s not a deal breaker lol

I actually just switched from my parents plan on At&t to FH plan with Verizon. I ended up having to get a new phone, but they had a buy one get one free offer so he did as well since it was time for an upgrade. We upgraded the lines as well because he kept going over his data limit. All in all, its ending up a little cheaper per month Smiley smile

We're both with Verizon but on our respective parents' plans. Honestly, we don't plan on combining our plans at all, at least for now. We both are completely self-sufficient otherwise but our parents told us they'd be happy to continue paying our phone bills as they're both grandfathered in to cheap family plans and may cost them more to take off a line, so we're just going to keep everything the same. At some point when they want us off of our phone plans, we'll probably combine ours on a family plan with Verizon (we both prefer Verizon anyway).

I previously had AT&T and my FH had Sprint. We switched over to T-Mobile simply for pricing; military deals.

I was literally in the exact same situation before I switched! I was on Verizon on my mom's plan while FH had his own line through AT&T. My mom was paying 1/2 my part of the bill until I graduated college, then she told me I'd have to pay $100/month. So I gladly switched to FH's phone plan for $60/month. Haha.

In my area, we only have AT&T and Spectrum as well. However, AT&T doesn't work in my current apartment as it did in my previous apartment only 5 minutes away...So I am stuck with Spectrum. Haha.
