Colors for Mothers

on November 1, 2020 at 2:19 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Hi!

I am trying to figure out what colors both my mother and my FMIL should wear for the wedding as they have both asked me and want me to make the decision as they know I'm a bit type A. My colors are wine, gold, grey and ivory. My bridesmaid will be in wine. the groomsmen will be in grey and my FH will be in a wine colored jacket with black pants. I usually would say it doesn't matter to me but I am concerned with one of their dresses clashing with my FH jacket since it's not a neutral color. Any advice?

Is gold an option for one of them? I don’t know that both in gold is a good idea but one of them it would look lovely. The other, what about a sage green? Should go with your colours without looking too matchy matchy. Black is always a safe option too.

Both my mother and his mother ended up wearing black dresses for our micro wedding. They were both super comfortable with that color choice and both looked amazing. Good luck!

My stepmom & FMIL (my mom has passed away) asked what color too. My biggest concern was whether the colors we chose for the wedding would look good on them. I didn’t want them to feel uncomfortable or ugly in what they were going to wear. Our colors are red, charcoal and cream (my fiancé is a firefighter so we had to incorporate fire colors). I told them to have fun with it! My stepmom says she looks great in charcoal & my FMIL is going with a shade of red. My only request is whatever color they chose, I wanted my dad & FFIL to have a matching tie.

I think they should wear whatever they want. My mom will likely wear grey and his purple. This suit will probably be grey and my dress is ivory. It never thought of giving them colors to choose from.

Navy or a deep purple looks good with those colors, so you could try those!

Since they've asked you for suggestions, I think great options with your colors might be champagne, silver, navy, blush or a lighter rose color that looks good next to the wine color. Any of those would harmonize (but not "match") with the other wedding colors. And, from a practical standpoint, those are all colors that are pretty easy to find in MOB/G formalwear options. I had trouble deciding and ended up finding two awesome dresses -- both on sale or clearance -- one in blush pink and the other in champagne. If you give them a couple of options that you like and then let them choose from there they'll have more flexibility in making their final decision. Because of my skin tone, I would look terrible in silver, but good in blush. Also if they each choose what works for them, they'll coordinate without looking too "matchy." Good luck! Smiley heart

PS -- This year might be different because of the limited number of big social events, but a couple years ago, shopping for my dress during after Christmas sales was awesome! I got the champagne dress at Macy's for $20, when the EXACT same dress was available at DB for $180.... Smiley winking

Stick to your colors. No one will notice if they match anything or don't. Get dresses in a flattering color for each of them from your wine/gold scheme. They could even black if they wish.
