Colors clash, need advice!!

Heather, on October 8, 2008 at 11:12 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

So I REALLLY want to have an orange and blue wedding (my favorite and my grooms favorite colors, respectively) and we have plenty of great ideas for bridemaids, pew bows, corsages, etc. The only problem is that the church we are getting married in, a church that is important to me, has rose colored pews. I know that it is probalby going to clash something awful, but I don't really know away to get around it. Any one have any ideas??

Maybe you could use a shade of the orange and blue that would complement the pews. Or You could just use the orange because that would go best with the rose pew color and then do the reception with both the blue and orange. Also do you have a accent color? If it is neutral you could use that color for your ceremony and then all three colors for you reception. I think you will be able to make it work. Good Luck and Congratulations!

If it is the cushions that are pink, maybe you could buy or make cushions to place on top!

You could always match the orange and blue carefully by matching the undertone of the pews.

    Congratulations....!!

In desing, when you want to add a touch of color to others you are planning to use, you add that color throught and element that can help you to integrate all color bringing armony to the whole look.

In your case using pastel orange (not brite) and blue you can add the the pink in the bridemaids corsages and aso you can bring all your color in the pew bows using small flowers with orange, blue and pink, dress belts, tuxedos belts, bowtie, etc.

I agree with the other comments, as well. In terms of your decor for the ceremony use the orange as your dominant color (there are so many variatons to choose whick will allow you to add a hint of the rose and it could work equally well with the blue). In fact, I would grab some color swatches of both the orange and blue (head to the church) and see which would work best. Maybe you all can agree to change the shading of orange and blue (if not no worries, everyone's focus will be on the beautiful couple, not the color of the pews that the were seated on for maybe 30 mins.)

    Best Wishes!

I can tell you that people wont even notice the color of the cushions. At my church the pews are a claret red, and there have been several weddings held there and no one even thought "OMG! the chairs wont match my wedding colors." Why? cause no one really notices them, and I am very sure that it will be the same in your case. So I wouldn't worry to much about coordinating every single detail, cause you'll give your self a migrain and unecessary stress.

Hire a photographer that will do colorization for you where the flowers are in color and the rest of the photo is in black and white. I had a church with bright orange pews and carpet and you would never suspect it from the photos!

I wouldn't worry too much about the colors at the church, people really don't pay attention. I would concentrate on the reception

Depending on the shade of blue you are using, it may not be a problem.

You might want to use this designers trick.

Go to a paint center and pick the shades of blue, orange and rose that you need to work with in the color chip section.

Now pick 3 shades of those same colors in pale to medium to bright.

Go to your church and sit in the back and look at the colors in the light of the church.

You will be amazed at which colors pop out as the perfect blend!

We do this when we are designing a larger wedding or event and have decor to deal with.

Add in a white or iVory for accent and greenery to frame and it will be beautiful.

Hello Heather. I agree with Christina. With the flowers and the dresses, and you and your guests (sitting on the pews), the things that are noticed and show up in your photographs would be the surroundings. I have not seen any of our photos and realized that the pews, or even the color of the carpet clashed with the bride's colors. The church's decor usually fades into the background once you have all of your things in place. Take a deep breath. It will be OK.

When your guests are sitting on the pews, won't their bodies "hide" the offensive colors? I would have your ushers "pack" the rows at the front of the church and make sure that everyone is sitting tightly together so that all the cushioning is covered---just a thought...hope that it works for you. I honestly don't think that people are going to notice the color of the pews...all eyes are going to be on the beautiful bride. If you want to draw attention away from the rose colored pews however...I suggest that you have pew bows in a neutral color, ivory/white, depending on the color of your gown, and accent with greeney (ie. ivy) and perhaps some neutral color flowers such as white hydrangea.

Concentrate more on your reception to highlight your color theme...which by the way...I think is going to be very pretty and a unique combination.

    Good luck

Actually the rose surrounded by corange will probably fade into the background so to speak. And keep in mind you dont have to use the orange & blue shades you see on the bears uniforms, unless you all are die hard fans of course. The shade of colors can work togther & not clash. hers an example: http://lovelaughterelegance.files.wordpress.com/2008/02/sweetsexyboard2.jpg
