The bridesmaids are wearing eggplant, can I get away with wearing eggplant, just different style? I will be honest, many dresses I have tried on make me look like a donut hole(yup) due to I am an apple shaped and very conscious of my tummy, arms and back. Do I have to wear the bridal colors? I would love to find that shade of purple or deep rose that compliments the bridesmaid but having a tough time. Not sure if wearing eggplant is considered tacky, or can I go with navy? I find the deeper the hue the better it looks on me. Included is a picture of a dress I bought
through a try on program, it’s the only one that looked good, thinking of navy or rose in same style but worried rose will make me look more donut holey. It’s important that I look nice nor want to be considered tacky. I care and want my daughter’s big day to go off well. Her main colors by the way are eggplant and mauve and dusty rose shades in the flowers mixed with purple flowers and greenery. Gold also for accent.

Hey!! Have you settled on a color/outfit that you will be wearing to your daughter's wedding?

I would definitely talk with the bride and ask how she feels about it. I didn't want my mom to match the bridesmaids. My bridesmaids are wearing plum and then men are wearing a light grey so my mom is wearing Lilac and the mother of the groom is wearing a dark grey. The dress does look beautiful on you!

I'm having the same issue with my Mom, so this thread is perfect--so glad I found it. My Mom told me she was worried about looking "too formal," Honestly, I'm way too old for the MOB vs Bride drama (I'm in my 40s). I think the mother should wear whatever she looks good in.

My mom was having the same issue. I think you look great in that dress! Typically, you can wear some variant on the wedding color if you don't want to wear the exact color. I think my mom and his mom are both wearing the wedding color. It wasn't even intentional; it just kind of happened that way.

Thanks for all the wonderful reply’s, I bought the same style in midnight navy. It looks really nice on, very flattering! I take it to the seamstress next week.

My mom wants to wear a gold pantsuit. We're having a fall wedding with the colors being all fall colors, so it would fit. I think eggplant would be fine though.
