Coffee/cocoa/hot cider bar

Michele, on October 25, 2020 at 5:11 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
For the colder months..autumn and winter..did or would you serve this for guests? Particularly nondrinkers would appreciate it. Did your caterer/bartender provide it or did you need to go through a separate espresso caterer?

Also would you provide a wide variety of flavor/topping options or keep it basic?

I think it depends on your crowd. I got married yesterday and we did hot beverages our caterer provided, along with a beer/wine bar. Quite literally nobody touched the hot cider/ hot chocolate/ coffee. Even the non drinkers didn’t. Truthfully, I think it’s probably a waste of money and something I would cut out if I could go back and do it again. But again, it’s a know your crowd thing. It might be a nice option for appetizers/cocktail hour if you’re doing those.

I am already married and we got married in the summer, but I had wanted a fall wedding. I would definitely have offered these as an option especially since I don't drink and a large portion of my family doesn't drink either. You could include mint, vanilla, cinnamon, and whip cream for flavors/toppings.

I think I had one, lol.
I was looking so forward to it and didn’t get to drink anything! But I did hear someone say the coffee was empty and needed to be refilled, so at least my guests were drinking it.
Anyway, my caterer took care of everything for it. Again can’t tell you what was on the bar though 🤷‍♀️

We did not have topping or general flavorings for coffee, or fancy Brews. Just Coffee, brewed from regular or low caffeine Jamaican beans. . Just milk or cream. But almost 50% of alcoholic drinks served were were coffee liqueur, either super sweet Kahlua or one half the price, made from real coffee beans but not as sweet, Piccala. Coffee with Emetts cream, (Irish whisky and cream mixed, I think). Coffee with Hazel nut liqueur was also popular. In 12 or 15 oz mugs. We had a pretty full bar available, in October, but alcohol in coffee was the biggest. Rum drinks, Ginger beer ( alcoholic) , and various whiskey's next. Almost no one had any Gin or Vodka, though Tanqueray and Stoli did not get complaints. But warm drinks went well . And more guests drank apple wine than red, though we had a variety of fairly expensive wines. It is a know your crowd thing, though. An old roommate married 2 weeks later, and the next day my cousin. Full bar available, but anyone under 40 was drinking Vodka or Gin martinis. They married locally, were running low the 2nd wedding at their Inn, and we sent over the Vodka and Gin our crowd had not opened. I think big regional as well as age group differences. Near us spiked coffee has always been popular, but if there are any Starbucks within 50 miles, I have never seen them.

We’re getting married in April and we have a mixture of drinkers & non drinkers. I know some of the non drinkers enjoy a cup of coffee after dinner while enjoying dessert so I plan on just picking up a jug of coffee from Dunkin’ Doughnuts or Einstein’s. Our venue actually recommended that since it’s much cheaper.

I would love this! I think how much your guests appreciate it would depend on how cold it is. If you want to add flavors, I wouldn't go over the top because it will make the line move more slowly, but cinnamon and caramel are two flavors that work well with all coffee, hot cocoa, and cider, so offering those two as an addition to any of the beverages could be a good way to make the selection feel more special.

They would be awesome as we do not drink; however, every venue does coffee, so that would be just fine if you wanted to save a little money!

We asked our caterer even though it wasn't on the menu, so don't let that discourage you! We're doing hot coffee and tea but nothing fancy, just with cream and sugar probably. We just thought since it will be November in the Midwest it could be REALLY cold (or not) and people might like something warm to drink in addition to bottled water/soda and alcohol.

I think if it were me i would probably just choose something like cocoa or coffee and have toppings on the side like marshmallows, cream, chocolate shavings, peppermint sticks, etc

We had a dry wedding, so our espresso bar was the main drink attraction. we had regular coffee, lattes, hot tea, hot chocolate, apple cider, etc.! for the flavored lattes, we offered several "fall" options like pumpkin spice, hazelnut and vanilla. we used an espresso caterer recommended by our wedding planner. we really went all out on the coffee bar and even had personalized coffee sleeves/napkins. it was a huge hit!
