Just Said Yes November 2020

Coffee + Food Catering

Allison, on April 4, 2020 at 3:12 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14

Hey all! I'm Allison Moody (soon to be Jordan) and I'm getting married in November 2020. It is a HUGE want for me to have a full coffee service at my wedding, and I have found an awesome vendor who is willing to do everything I want! Smiley smile Because of this, I need to go AS CHEAP AS POSSIBLE for the actual food portion. The reception will be in the middle of the day so I don't see a need to provide a full meal.

With that being said, I am highly considering a dessert only reception, and/or a charcuterie table.

Do you have any inexpensive food ideas or experiences for me? I would love some advice!

Thank you so much!

Food is such a struggle. For us we decided we really wanted breakfast food since we love it. And it’s super cheap! Like 2k for 135 guests! With a pancake bar and breakfast food buffet and appetizers during social hour. We’re planning on having a coffee station at our wedding too

Middle of the day when? If between 2-4, I think what you’re suggesting is fine. If it’s between 12-2, I’d expect a full meal as a guest- something like Italian or BBQ can be inexpensive though.

If it’s after lunch time, appetizers would be nice and mini-desserts would be nice. I’m picturing finger sandwiches, fresh shrimp, bruschetta, and a mimosa or Bloody Mary bar along with mini desserts - shooters of tasty treats.

That sounds doable but if you’re gonna have charcuterie then I feel like you may as well have a couple other savory appetizers too

If you won’t provide a full meal then you need to have your wedding at a non-meal time, like 2-4 pm.

For light food, I would provide a mix of savory & sweet options. For example, if you have cake perhaps also banana nut bread or mini finger sandwiches so not too much sugar.

What time exactly is the wedding? I feel like that’s definitely relevant info before making suggestions

How long is the reception? If it is several hours long people are going to want actual food rather than just coffee and desserts and may leave early so they can go have dinner. I would recommend providing more than just desserts and coffee. I personally hate coffee so a coffee bar wouldn't interest me at all. I also think 3:00 pm seems like an odd time for a coffee bar. A coffee bar seems more like something you'd have at a brunch or late night wedding rather than a day time wedding.

If the reception is only going until like 4:30 I think some fruit trays and cheese and charcuterie boards are fine. If it’s going any later than that then I would definitely serve a full meal. I don’t drink coffee so I’m zero help there lol.

Hey! I love this idea. I would say if the reception is going to last past 5, you should consider some heavier food options. Also, there are a ton of people out there that don’t really do dessert, including me! I’m type 1 diabetic and I just prefer to veer away from desserts and have my carb intake from real food.
With that being said, in addition to your desserts, I would probably include some foods such as charcuterie, fruit, chilled seafood, mini quiche, soup shooters, assorted egg rolls, mini crab cakes.

    Best wishes!

As someone who doesn't drink coffee, I'd be at a bit of a loss with just snacks and coffee. For a 3PM reception, you either need to commit to the cake + punch (or coffee) idea, or serve a kind of teatime set up. ...Which could work with coffee.

Perhaps it's best to have some cheese and charcuterie plates, finger sandwiches, and light desserts?

What you're planning sounds fine. If people are truly starved, they can eat afterward at a local restaurant.

Alot of people don't drink coffee so I'm guessing it includes hot cocoa, tea, Italian sodas? If not, ask if they will offer it. Also have a punch or lemonade option.

Unless it is at a meal time (12-1pm or 5-7pm) you do not have to serve a full meal.

In the middle of the day, just serve desserts and tea sandwiches. No one should demand or expect to eat unless your reception is at a regular meal time.
