Cocktail Only Reception or Sit down dinner ?

Would if be weird to have a cocktail only reception with just lounge furniture , pub tables and a few sit down tables ? ( as pictured) The menu would consist of heavy appetizers and a bar . Or should we have just a sit down dinner tables ( rounds) ? Which the menu would be more heavy with a meat ,...

Would if be weird to have a cocktail only reception with just lounge furniture , pub tables and a few sit down tables ? ( as pictured) The menu would consist of heavy appetizers and a bar . Or should we have just a sit down dinner tables ( rounds) ? Which the menu would be more heavy with a meat , starch and veggies. Please don't judge we working on the budget , so bouncing around ideas. As a guest which would you prefer ?

    Usually either would be good. But since you are having a NYE wedding. I think a cocktail style may fit a little better.

    I think this sounds fun!

    I don't think you need to offer dinner if you start at 7-8pm

    But maybe list on the invitation something like

    "Drinks & hors d'oeuvres to follow"

    That way people know it's not a seated meal and will eat dinner before Smiley smile

    Actually scheduling the event later to allow guests to eat ahead isn't well proven. Common experience for many with the traditional cocktail hour is to be so full from just the served hors d'oeuvres that many can barely touch the main entree. By extension there's no reason for guests to be hungry just because it's a cocktail only reception.
