Cocktail Music

Lynn, on March 28, 2019 at 8:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 18
What kind of music are you guys playing at cocktail hour? I’m thinking about doing 90’s early 2000’s R&B.

So, I am really type A when it comes to planning, lol. AND I LOVE MUSIC!! All kinds! So, I provided our DJ with several genres I want played at different points in the reception, with a list of songs that I'd like to hear (but the DJ can totally play other songs as well, the list is more of a "guidline."). For the cocktail hour & dinner, I want oldies but goodies. For early dancing & mingling, I want classic rock & oldies. And for when the party really gets started, I want 90's hip hop. This is what I provided to my DJ, haha:

Our cocktail hour will be outside on the patio of a golf resort so I'm thinking jazz or something of that nature. If we have a small group of musicians for the ceremony I might see if we can add them for cocktail hour as well and have DJ take over afterwards for the reception.

Cocktail hour will be old school R&B like Family Reunion by the OJ's, Ordinary Love by Sade.

I just made my cocktail hour/ dinner playlist. It's a mix of mostly love songs. I've got Bob Marley, James Taylor, Tom Petty, Etta James, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, The Postal Service, The Black Keys.... all kinds of stuff. I just looked up similar playlists on Spotify for inspiration.

Our cocktail hour will be classical music because my FH and I both love that genre. Pachelbel, Mozart, Bach, Wagner, etc.

Thank you Smiley smile. I might be a little OCD, haha. I just love music though, and really wanted to ensure there was a lot of good tunes played, versus the normal "standard" wedding music.

We have a live acoustic guitar player for our cocktail hour. I'm letting him pick whatever he wants to play. He plays a good mix of modern, popular songs and 90's, 80's so I think it'll be great for everyone.

I am having a 1930's art deco/old hollywood themed reception, so I will be having music from that era playing during cocktail hour. Once we serve dinner, we will transition to more modern music.

I actually asked all of my friends who are attending what their first dance song was and put them into the rotation.

We are going with Motown and some 60-70's R&B/Soul. Our music theme for the wedding overall is old school so there will be nothing played older than 1999....for the most part Smiley winking There are some more recent songs we will make exceptions for later in the evening.
