Cocktail hour/dinner music

Kara, on April 23, 2017 at 10:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

Hi guys! Wedding is fast approaching! What genres of music are you/did you use for your cocktail hour and dinner?

Did anyone do anything "different" than jazz/Sinatra?

At the suggestion of our officiant we had 30s-40's swing music. A little different and got quite a few compliments from older and younger guests

My FH and I are considering having an acoustic playlist, covers of popular chart songs in an acoustic tone. Some great playlists are on Spotify, my favorite that we are considering is "Afternoon Acoustic"

Jazz and Sinatra are in my DNP list. I'm hoping to get in my love of Ben Howard and Fleet Foxes during cocktail hour.

We are having a harpist and she will be playing upbeat, well know, more recent songs.

We're doing Turkish folk music. Basically, if we have a theme, it's "Istanbul" (our favorite city, and where we had our first date), so the decor and music reflects that.

For cocktail hour, we had a guitarist. And I can't even tell you what music the DJ was playing while dinner was being served lol

I hired a steel drum and ukulele duo as a surprise for my FH. They'll be playing when he arrives at the venue (so I hope the videographer and photographer catch his reaction!) And they'll play for the cocktail hour. The sad part is , we'll miss most of it but at least he'll be surprised and happy for the 30 min leading up to the ceremony!

I'm planning to have a live brass band who I "discovered" playing in the subway! But they are actually a real band who perform at concert venues and such.
