Cocktail Hour

Caila, on January 24, 2020 at 2:37 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 13

Has anyone done a cocktail hour sweets table? We are thinking of doing like chex mix, popcorn, m&m, reese's, snickers, and some sort of gummy.

How much do you think we need of each? We are going to have about 300 people. This is just a little snack to have out while they wait for the wedding party to show up!! Thanks. Smiley smile

Maybe you shold plan 5 -6 portion (minimum) per person.... that's what recommended me the hotel for an event I have as a Coktail

We did not do a full sweets table, but did something similar. Both of our first names start with M, and almost everyone calls us M&M. So, we have jars of M&M’s on all of the cocktail tables during cocktail hour (as well as on our dessert table). We did a variety of colors, not just the standard (you can customize them on M&M’s website by the way). We had a 100 guest wedding and served approximately 8 pounds of M&M’s.

Will there be regular food/appetizers to eat as well? An hour is a long time to only have candy as the available option.

Personally, I would throw in a sugar-free sweet for the candy lovers; with 300 guests there's bound to be some diabetics or others on a sugar restricted diet. Just a thought Smiley smile

Are you going to have normal food too? I would have some more savory options especially if guests are drinking.

No. We will be having dinner as soon as the bridal party arrives. This is typical where I live to have small snacks, such as chex mix, popcorn, and a few candy type things in lieu of appetizers.

This is a great idea! I know we have a few diabetics on both sides -- thanks for the idea. Smiley smile

Could you do appetizers instead? My experience at weddings is people are usually hungry during cocktail hour for real food since they are starting to drink.

Appetizers add up to be a lot more expensive than just snacks. I have never gone to a wedding with proper appetizers maybe in bigger cities, but where we live people tend to just do snack foods to give a little something to munch on.
