Cocktail hour

Fmv, on May 31, 2019 at 7:51 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
Sooo not sure what to do.
Cocktail hour choices just seem super sad to...and really pricey??
The venue is supplying a free veggie tray(gee thanks) but nothing else seems very good options?
I guess i shouldnt call it "cocktail hour" because we arent offering cocktails. Our venue is making it a cash bar at this time, and when we come back from taking photos they will start using our beer and wine we purchased through the alcohol package.
What should i do? I dont want my guests to sit there incredibly bored while we are gone taking photos.
Also during this time the venue has to set up the hall and the rest of our tables because the ceremony and reception are in the same building

We aren't having a cocktail hour but our caterer suggested fruit and cheese and crackers before he knew that.

The cheese & sausage platter sounds good! Would be nice with the veggie tray they’re providing.

Yikes. Can you extend your alcohol package? If during cocktail hour the drinks were a cash bar, I’d assume they’d be the whole night. As a guest, I’d rather have drinks during cocktail and just cut off the booze an hour before the event ends.

Unfortunately not. The package we chose is 10 bottles of wine and 2 half barrels of beer. Thats prettt much all they offered, and they even recommended starting our alcohol when the reception begins.
The costs they gave us for more wine or kegs for us to pay once our amount is gone, was insane! even our parents said they wouldnt pay to have more alcohol added to our tab. Basically when its gone its gone.
I think a sign will have to be made saying cocktail hour is a cash bar. Ill have to ask my venue about how that will work

How many people? Less than 100? Sausage and cheese sounds good.

Were expecting around 140 guests. But around 14 of us would be gone for photos. So the cheese and sausage sounds good actually

Move the provided wine and beer up to the beginning of cocktail hour. Guests are much more understand of a supply running out, than a supply being withheld until the more important people have arrived.

I agree with this. Also, 10 bottles of wine and two 1/2 barrels of beer is nowhere near enough alcohol for 140 guests (+ bride, groom, and wedding party). You're going to run out regardless. Better to have only one period of pay rather than bookended periods when the bar is charging guests. Far better to figure out how to host your guests more fully, though.
