Cocktail hour without alcohol

Jamie, on December 17, 2016 at 6:46 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 58

We are getting married at a state park, which means no alcohol is allowed. What should we serve for cocktail hour if there are no cocktails?

I wouldn't call it a cocktail hour, if there are no cocktails.

I wouldn't subject my guests to a cocktail hour without cocktails. Oh, and I would find a new venue.

So while I would definitely prefer cocktails, what about some sort of make your own taco/ baked potato bar? I try to make do with what we got.

Find a different venue for the reception. Dry weddings are rude to guests.

Is just your ceremony there or the ceremony and reception? If it's just the ceremony I would have the cocktail hour at the reception location. My ceremony is at a park but the reception is at a restaurant and the cocktail hour is at that restaurant too.

Everyone invited already know it's a dry reception. I was mostly asking for ideas of cute mocktails to serve or something. Finding another venue is out of the question.

Maybe coffee? I'm assuming it's a daytime wedding if it's at a park. Don't do mocktails. It draws attention to the fact that there is no alcohol.

Iced tea, lemonade, sparkling water with fruit in it, etc. I agree no mocktails. As I'm certain you're aware more people than less believe some alcohol (at least wine/beer) is best!

There is nothing 'cute' about mocktails. And a potato will never be a glass of wine.

There is nothing wrong with a dry wedding! Its YOUR wedding and there is nothing rude about not serving alcohol... I think coffee, punch, sparkling water, maybe those nice sparking apple ciders, Shirley Temples etc... would be perfect!

Saying it isn't rude is like going out to dinner and not being allowed to buy a drink with your meal. Guests usually spend on average more to go to your wedding then the hosts are per plate of food

My ceremony is from 1-1:30, photos are 1:30-2:30 and the reception will start about 2:30. The venue is on a mountain. We will be serving a light meal. Since its mid afternoon. Our family's are fine with the dry wedding and our friends aren't big on drinking. We will have a DJ and everything else for a normal wedding. It's just due to it being a state park alcohol is not allowed and it is a felony if caught.

@ Celia i agree i dont want a potato at cocktail hour i want a damn cocktail!! But i guess you can do what PPs said and have fun drinks like iced tea, lemonade, shirley temples and such since changing your venue is out the question.

Yeah. I go to a wedding and I want a Shirley Temple...I'm a freaking adult. I do not want a Shirley Temple.

This is a thought process that should have been considered BEFORE you bookes.
