Cocktail Hour vs. Dinner - Music Options

Almost Richardson<3, on October 11, 2017 at 2:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

What music choices are you guys playing during cocktail hour vs. when dinner is being served?

I'm absolutely having Frank Sinatra/Bobby Darin/Dean Martin/Michael Buble-type music to be played at either cocktail hour or during dinner; leaning more towards cocktail hour since it's longer and this genre has plenty of songs to fill the time.

So what are some other genres/types of music that could be played during dinner that don't necessarily mimic the cocktail hour music?

We did a playlist of low-key instrumental jazzy background music for cocktail hour and then the DJ started playing when guests entered the room for dinner. The DJ played a mix of all different styles and time periods.

We are not having any music during cocktail hour. Everyone will be so busy talking about excited that it's not worth it in our eyes. So we are saving the music that you mentioned above for dinner!

The classic/jazzy feel is definitely more of what I'm leaning towards. I'm just not sure if I should roll it over into dinner as well, or if that would be too much!

FH wants to have soft acoustic type music for the cocktail hour. I'm not sure what I'll have playing for dinner yet.

I'm thinking Jazz for cocktail hour and more instrumental for dinner, probably along the lines of the piano guys and Lindsay Sterling.

I plan on having the Frank/etc. for dinner with some modern slower songs we like too.

We're having a cello/flute duo for the ceremony and cocktail hour, and I'm hoping they'll play some upbeat pop songs mixed with some classical ones too for the cocktail hour. I haven't consulted with the musicians yet about it.
