Cocktail hour q and a

Josie, on February 20, 2020 at 12:23 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
I need help deciding if this idea is cute or tacky. I want to make a video for the cocktail hour (while the bridal party is getting pictures and such) for people to have something to do besides sit around. The idea is to ask the bridesmaids, groomsmen, bride, groom, family members different questions pertaining the couple and each other. I think it will be a cute way to entertain guest, is different, and I love personable touches to a wedding. I feel it would also be nice for us to have as a keep sake from the wedding. I just dont know if it would be annoying and cheesy.

I’ve been to a wedding where they had that and it was a really nice touch. But I think the cocktail hour is also a good time for the families to talk and get to know each other but I’m sure the film won’t be the whole hour. I think your families would really enjoy it.

I think it would be fine for 10-15 minutes, but one of the main purposes of cocktail hour (besides to kill time, obviously) is to give guests the opportunity to mingle.

I’ve been to weddings that have had videos running somewhere that people could watch if they want to. It’s a cute idea, but I wouldn’t make it a focal point of the cocktail hour.

I agree with the option of it running in the background and guests can watch if they want. We've been to a wedding where everything stopped and guests were supposed to sit and focus on what seemed like an incredibly long video about the couple (it probably wasn't as long as it seemed).... It went on too long and seemed very awkward. I would have preferred to have natural conversations with other guests.

I went to a wedding where there was something in the background but like pp mentioned it’s really just for something to glance at for a little bit of the time

I think it is a cute idea and would be fun way for guests to learn more about you two as a couple. I wouldn’t play it for the entire hour. But 20-30 minutes, followed by music, would be nice!
