For cocktail hour we had acoustic guitarist players who played music for us (they also did our ceremony music). Then for our reception we had the dj play music. We trusted the dj to know what type of music to play.

We're having a jazz band during the cocktail hour and then will transition into DJ for the dinner/reception.

Our DJ has a cocktail hour play list that has Sinatra and stuff like that. It's usually played a little quieter so people can talk and mingle. Dinner will probably be some of the same stuff, but with a little more country music mixed in. That's really all we listen to, and it will fit more with the feel of the wedding.

Our DJ or harpist will be playing during the cocktail hour. We get our DJ for 6 hours but our reception will be 5. We get the harpist for an hour but we will only need her for 30 minutes max (we may pay an extra hour for her; although I'm not sure what she would play.)

Some people have their musician from the ceremony continue to play (guitarist, violinist, harpist, etc) others chose for their Dj to play quieter songs during cocktail hour & dinner. I think it would be strangely and oddly quiet without any background music playing during those times.

I'm having my DJ 6 hours--ceremony through end of reception, Fh and I'll pick a lot of music but we trust him to know his stuff for cocktail/dinner.

2 members of our band - the keyboardist and saxophonist, played during our cocktail hour. Since we had 225 guests, you really couldn't hear them, unless you were in their quarter of the room. I don't know if I would have done it again, but it comes as part of their package.

It's common around here for music to be played throughout the evening, with the meal courses spaced throughout the dancing. We had about 15 minutes of dancing, before the 1st course was served, then another 15 minutes of dancing, between the soup and salad, etc. During the entree break (20 minutes), there was to be at least one band member playing/singing, at all times. (The band was served their entree, during that time). We actually used most of the entrée break, for the 3 speeches. One of the lead vocalists handled the mic and the sound man was present, too, to help with the speeches.

Our DJ will be playing music, but we haven't discussed exactly what we want with him, yet. I'm thinking jazz would be ideal.

FH and I are just going over our DJ's timeline right now! Yes we will have music playing in the background during cocktail hour and dinner (our DJ has a playlist that includes Sinatra, Michael Buble, etc. for these times but we're including some of our own suggestions and letting the DJ take over from there).

Our string quartet will provide ceremony and cocktail music - likely all classical. We have a band for dinner and dancing.
