Cocktail hour...how does it go?

What are your guests eating during cocktail hour? Is there going to be music during this time? Does it stop immediately when the bride and groom arrive? I ask because I want to do this, but I've never been to a wedding that had one. I only heard about it after joining WW.

Our wedding was at 6:30, cocktails immediately following, dinner at 7:30. Our cocktail time (which was only about 45 minutes) was outside where the ceremony was and in the room where the bar was (guests could move back and forth between the areas). Appetizers were served in the bar room. The dining room was closed. The string trio that played for the ceremony continued playing thru cocktail time. When we were finished with pictures, we joined our guests for cocktails. The dining room was opened at 7:30 and the string trio stopped playing. We had a Spotify play list to play in the dining room during dinner. Hope this helps!
