We are having a fruit and fresh berry display, domestic and imported cheese with bread and crackers, meatballs, and stuffed mushrooms plus a full bar. I don't want people to get so stuffed that they don't enjoy dinner also.

I think your guests will love that! We are doing a similar amount of food for cocktail hour. 1 shooter, 1 cold appetizer, 1 hot appetizer, fruit/cheese display, and drinks. Then for dinner we are doing a full buffet with filet, chicken, grilled veggies, mashed potato bar, salad bar, fresh warm rolls, then cake, then a late night snack of sliders and fries, and our wedding favors are krispy kreme donuts. I don't think anyone will be upset about there being too much food Smiley smile

We are having fruit and cheese platters as well as 3 passed hor deurves. I think what you said is fine. Some people go all out with stations at cocktail hour. When I go to weddings I'll usually have 1-2 hor deurves. People will probably be busy drinking and enjoying themselves and not focused on the food.

@gymrat- Wow!! That sounds incredible!! I never care about food at weddings. I've skipped dinner altogether before because I was too busy drinking and socializing. Lol! I would have definitely eaten at yours. And probably been too stuffed to dance. #foodwins!

I do wonder if it's a regional thing. Food is never the focal point of the weddings I've attended. Usually people rush through dinner so the fun can start. I can't imagine eating all those stations and then a 4 course meal. Are the receptions extra long?? We have hour and a half for dinner and then 3 1/2 hours of party. Is there a longer space between cocktail hour and dinner? I'm curious.

@Erin - and I only had 1/4 of it on my wedding day. Sad times LOL. I hope I get invited to someone else's wedding at my venue lol.

@Gymrat wins for cocktail hour food, I get jealous EVERY TIME I see her menu.

We have a cheese/crackers/veggies/hummus/dip/etc station, and then six passed appetizers.

I agree, OP's menu is on the light side, if anything.

ETA: but still better than the wedding we went to this weekend that had ONLY cheese and crackers during cocktail hour, and by the time I got through the line at the bar for a glass of wine, all the crackers were gone... :-/

I think you are fine with what you have fruit and berries don't take much room. Bread and meatballs will be more filling, but your guests can figure it out.

Better than to have too much than too little... I don't think you have a lot though.

I really dont think you have too much food either. I am hoping ours will be okay, we are having:

Warm Crab & Artichoke Dip with fresh tortilla chips

Calamari - cocktail sauce and sweet chili glaze

Ahi Poki Platter- sesame oil, garlic and soy served with sweet potato chips

    Fresh Vegetable Crudité

    Fresh Fruit Platter

We are expecting 50 guests, and then will have a 3 course dinner, followed by dessert.

I'd say don't worry about it. No one will ever be negative about a lot of cocktail hour food, only the opposite. You're good, as long as nothing runs out!

Cocktail hour is huge! Best part! Having 12 different passed options, a cheese spread with fresh dips and breads, and a skewer table and we are adding a

Station or too. The more the better!!

Ours is about the same. People will be glad to have something to nibble on and flowing drinks. They'll save room for dinner- we are a world of foodies!! Especially foodies for free food

All I want at cocktail hour is cocktails... The last wedding I went to said cocktail hour and served fruit, veggies, cheese and water... And I was searching for the cocktails... Lol

This sounds like plenty of food to me if you are serving a big dinner soon afterward. My ceremony is at 530, cocktails at 6 and dinner at 630 or 7 (still debating). I am planning fresh fruits and cheese trays and the bar of course during cocktails, and that will be more than what has been at most of the weddings I've attended. I think this is a regional thing. Where I'm from people usually go straight to the dinner.
