Cocktail Hour Entertainment

Paquita, on April 27, 2016 at 11:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

Has anyone ever had some kind of brief entertainment during the cocktail hour for guest while bride/groom do pictures? If so what type of entertainment? Im thinking about having liturgical(praise dancers) Would this be to much??

Booze, food. Dancers might be too much. Where will they perform if people are wandering around and mingling?

How long do you anticipate your cocktail hour being?

We just had a photobooth, acoustic guitar players and cornhole (it's how we met). And open bar.

If it's a nice day, we will have lawn games outside. Otherwise, just the jazz pianist.

I think people will want to mostly talk, eat, drink and mingle. I would only have the praise dancers if they did just one dance (less than 5 minutes).

Yea I think the praise dancers would be too much. If outdoors, the DJ will play some light jazz. If indoors there will be someone playing the piano.

That's usually the time everyone is talking & catching up (taking pictures with other guests), some back ground music is all that is usually needed. I'm assuming the praise dancers will perform to one song (so maybe 5 minutes) it wouldn't be that bad, I wouldn't do much longer than that.

The DJ will set-up a station in the garden where appetizers will be pasted around as well as the bar being available.

There was something like this on Four Weddings once. It was strange. Another bride had a character performer as Jack Sparrow...that was even more strange.

Not sure if everyone would pay attention to praise dancers during cocktail hour (as others have said, they may be too busy mingling/chatting). Also, depending on how your cocktail hour is set up, it may be difficult for everyone to see. My sister had praise dancers during her ceremony and it was really nice that way. Or you could even do it during the reception, before or after the blessing. I would also agree that it should only be for 1 song.

Yes they would only perform one song. There would be plenty room to perform in the middle of the room. Without interfering with traffic flow. The banquet room is quite large. The rest of the time we will have the DJ play soft jazz.
