Cocktail hour & dinner music!

KW, on June 8, 2017 at 5:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hey everyone!

Getting married in August. I received an email today from my DJ about music requests etc. for the reception. What kind of music did you request for the cocktail hour/dinner? Obviously I know all the dancy stuff should be saved for later, so looking for ideas! What artists/titles/genres did you request for your cocktail hour & dinner?

Most weddings that I have gone to have had more of a jazzy or instrumental feel when it came to the cocktail hour and dinner. I hope you get more help than just me being capt. obvious!

We let our DJ decide. He said he likes to start a bit slower and then play music to pick u the pace as dinner moves along.

We also chose "genres" and "styles" or music from their planner.

So we did not specify anything specific. But non-dancer stuff that is nostalgic usually works, 90's pop seems to work well.

We did jazz/classical during cocktail and then dinner it shifted a bit to 90's pop and other favourites that are not danceable.

90s pop is so my style lol! I know I should play at least some Frank Sinatra-esque stuff for the older folks, but not a huge fan, so don't really want to fill up the whole dinner hour with that!

For cocktail hour we had a string quartet, but if we didn't the venue was going to provide some background music: either classical or jazz.

For the dinner portion, we told our DJ soft R&B and jazz.

I second Gym Rat if a quartet is in the budget. Otherwise, have the DJ play soft jazz. A friend of mine recently had a small band (singer and two musicians) and they were amazing.
