Cocktail Hour Alternatives?

Tierra, on February 17, 2017 at 10:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Ok ladies

I need a bit of advice here. My fiance and I have been looking for wedding venues and yesterday I saw a very beautiful venue. It's within our price range and a decent size. We intend on having a small wedding. Here's the thing there is no space for a cocktail hour. There's a ceremony room, reception room, bridal and groom suite, kitchen and bathrooms of course. Does anyone have any ideas on what I plan for my guests in between ceremony and reception?

Can you do a room switch? Cocktail and Reception in the same room but have your venue move tables, chairs etc.?

Is there a space outside for it? A patio or lawn?

Did you ask the venue how they normally do this? They would probably have solid suggestions for you based on past weddings they've held.

A room switch isn't a bad idea. I hadn't thought abt outside. I mean it's just a parking lot but it could work. And yes I'll need to ask what others have done to get more ideas

The way our venue does it, we have the ceremony in one room, then cocktail hour in another room while the ceremony room is "flipped" for dinner. Then the guests return to the original room to eat dinner. I bet something like that could work.

In the same room? That's what ours and most of the weddings I've been to have been.

We're having a church wedding. Then while we take pictures guests will go to the reception space and have cocktail hour. It's the same space for cocktails and the reception... Might be a little tight but as a guest I like to have somewhere to sit and enjoy appetizers anyways (standing cocktail hour in a separate room makes it hard to juggle everything)

My venue charges extra for a cocktail hour room...like $1,000 more extra. We are just having our cocktail

Hour in the same room as our reception. Our package includes a five hour reception, so I hate that it's in the same room but I couldn't justify paying $1,000 more for the room.

Also, for future reference there are men on these forums that give great advice.

Why does your cocktail hour have to be in a separate room from the reception? I don't get it.
