Cocktail Hors D'oevres

Sara, on November 22, 2019 at 2:17 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

This is probably such a silly question, but I'm confused. We are having a cocktail our before our plated dinner reception. We are estimating 190 guests. If we do 3 passed hors d'oevres, do we buy them per person or do you do a bulk number of like 50 for each option? I'm looking at pricing and it would be about another $1000 just for these items if it's one of each per person, which seems like a lot.

I would ask your caterer. Ours did a price per person, but I think you'd want to account for some people wanting 2 one of something! And it might be cheaper one way or another.

I’ve read at least 3-4 pieces of food per person. I have no idea how many we had as our caterer handled it and was priced per person. Cocktail hour is always my favorite part of weddings and I love to sample everything.

    Hi Sara!

You would want to figure how many pieces per person you are wanting to serve for how long. For example 190 guests * 3 pieces per person / over 1 hour you would need = total amount of Hors d'oeuvres you need. If you have a caterer they can help you figure this out as well and get you more bang for your buck. I would also advise to do stationed hors d'oeuvres as it will save you some money on labor.

Usually it’s per person. I think the apps in our cocktail hour for 110 guests ended up being around $1,700 and we had 4 options plus a cracker/cheese/veggie display. If

I think it depends by caterer too because I've seen a lot do it by person cost

To be honest I was talking to one of the people who let us tour a venue and she said you aren't trying to give your guests a meal before the meal you're just trying to put a little food in their belly so you can pick and choose say 60 people for these apps 50 for a different app and 60 for another. that way you aren't spend an extra $1000 on app.

That's what I thought! I've been to a few weddings where it seemed like they had a few here and there of options. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg but also do want them to enjoy a little snack before. I will definitely check with my caterer on what they usually do.

I believe ours is per person as well but talk to your caterer. One piece of food per person isn’t enough food so ask the question of how many pieces per person for food if it is priced per person.

Our caterer planned on one bite per person, we had 4 passed appetizers & a stationary appetizer.
