Thanks! I've never heard of a morning suit, but I'm in the US (are they appropriate for black tie events?). I live near NYC so I should be able to find somewhere.

Mmm, depends on the event. Generally, a morning suit is the same shape as a tux, but usually in pale greys and silvers, designed to be worn in the morning. But, it's a good starting point for places that might sell suits of that type.

here's a pic - it would generally be worn with a top hat, so definitely for formal events but not black or white tie...

I would call bespoke menswear shops and ask for "white tie". Best wishes

If your budget allows for bespoke, totally go that route. My dude wants a tailcoat as well, but we are more rock-n-roll types and our budget is on the smaller side, so we actually got a tailcoat on eBay from a seller who liquidates formal wear rentals. Once he knows his measurements (there are guides online that you can google) he can shop for the style of tux he likes and buying in this manner means you can get like new items for a steal.
