Co-workers: To Mail or not to Mail the Invites?

Private User, on May 31, 2015 at 7:24 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

We're having a medium sized wedding, and I am inviting all 38 people from work - I have to, because I can't just invite a couple or I'd never hear the end of it. And I don't really mind, as we both have a very small family and want to have a nice-sized party. We thought it would be fun to invite people form work and have a good time all around. That being said, I wanted to know about etiquette here - do I hand-deliver the invitations, have them mailed to the office, or go after all of them for their home addresses? Of course, we're including the RSVP and stamped return envelope for everyone, so no pressure for them to give me their answers at work. But must I spend the postage, since no one is left out?

This was a topic a few months ago. Personally, I would mail them. However, a majority of the WW ladies would hand them out.

I just handed my save the dates out, privately, not in front of the entire office. However, I'll probably mail out the actual invites, I feel those are more formal and will include the RSVP with a stamp.

Since I am not inviting my entire office, I opted to mail my invitations to people so that they can quietly get them and rsvp without it being a huge deal. My boss decided that he wants me to hand him his so that it will save on postage - hahahaha $1.04 saved, but I guess every but helps.

I mailed, because it's nice to get actual mail, and it's not a huge cost savings to hand them out. I also avoided the awkwardness of certain people being invited and others not.

I'm handing mine privately to those I work with that I'm inviting--I see them on a daily basis. Plus, we're doing online RSVPs so no need to mail back the RSVP enclosure. Pretty sure that the etiquette police won't arrest me.

I would mail them, just because it's more formal that way, but I understand what you're saying about saving money and time/hassle getting everyone's mailing address. It's so nice to get that pretty invitation in the mail though.

I invited everyone in my department and handed them out. They were boxed invitation - at the time $2.24 a piece to mail. It wasn't so much the cost as the possibility of them getting damaged by the post office. We were lucky to find a PO, that wasn't busy at the time, who hand cancelled them for us. Only 1 of 150 didn't make it, but then, we handed out 100 of them. (Mailer boxers were an additional $1 each).

Thank you all very much! I think I'll hand them out, since I have been assured the etiquette police won't arrest me. And no one will be worried about missing their mail, etc. I appreciate the help!

I mailed them because I only invited 3 ladies from work. I would've felt awkward handing them with other people around.

If you are inviting every person in your office, I think it's OK to hand them out privately or put them in their mailbox (assuming you have them) at work. However, if you are not inviting every single person in your office, you should mail them.

I'm mailing all of them. It's just more personal.

Unless you're inviting everyone in the office I'd mail them.
