Clip-on earrings?

Kari, on November 26, 2019 at 7:45 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 21

I don't have any piercings, and when I was looking at bridal jewelry I found some really pretty clip-on earrings and was considering them for my big day to complete my look. I've never had my ears pierced.

I'm still unsure of my hairstyle, but I think I will have a loose updo, half-up-half-down, or at least have my hair pulled/clipped back with a hairpiece to keep it out of my face.

Have any piercing-free brides worn clip-ons for their wedding? How did it go?

Here are some options I was considering:

Clip-on earrings? 1

My e-ring is rose gold with a gray diamond and white sapphires, so I thought these would pair nicely.

These are beautiful! And very similar to the style that I want. I guess my only concern would be if the clips could stand the weight of the earring. They look heavier than the average clip ons. I would imagine that with dancing and constant movement they might move. That would be concern.

I agree with Alejandra. These are all gorgeous earrings, but if you'll need to wear clip ons, I would probably lean towards stud earrings rather than dangle earrings!

I think those are all gorgeous! I also don’t have my ears pierced so I’ll be wearing clips ons. They do look a little heavy. I was a college cheerleader and I had to wear earrings to games. Clip ons wouldn’t work but magnetic earrings hold extremely well so you could look into those? They’ll probably be able to hold heavy dangles better but they do get uncomfortable after a while.

I don't want the clip to be visible at all (I think it looks tacky) so was liking the look of the bigger dangling earrings because they hide the clip. I could also just wear them for the ceremony and take them off for the reception.

I'm not set on them either way, but have never worn clip-on earrings so didn't know what it would be like!

I tried magnetic earrings as a teenager and would totally consider them if I could find the right style. Most magnetic earrings I found were super simple studs or kind of childish looking - not at all bridal and not in rose gold. I'll keep looking though - if you see any bridal rose gold magnetic earrings definitely link them here!

My ears aren’t pierced and the only time I wore clip-on‘s was after being convinced to wear them for prom. 🤦🏽‍♀️ It just wasn’t “Me” because I go on so long without earrings that I didn’t like the look or feel of them on me. It’s almost a signature for me not to wear earrings (and instead I love wearing bold necklaces and bracelets/bangles). Everyone’s used to me not wearing earrings so it’s more of a big deal if I do. So I’m not wearing any earrings for the wedding. But the ones you listed are nice.

I love them all but I agree with PPs and am concerned about the weight of the dangling earings. My choice would be the last pair you have posted.

Yea I've never worn earrings to anything, so I'm definitely not worried about needing them to complete my bridal look. I'd be totally fine not wearing any, but thought it also might be a nice way to dress myself up for the occasion and have it be different from my everyday look. Thanks for sharing your experience about prom - I suspect these will feel weird and "not me" but was curious about others experiences!

Thanks! I've never worn earrings so suspect they'd feel weird on me but also thought it might be a way to distinguish my bridal look from my everyday look.

Based on what people are saying about weight, I'll probably stick with the more discrete version if I do end up trying out earrings.

I'm also not set on earrings and definitely want a bridal hairpiece of sorts, so may just stick with that as a way to glam up my look instead.

If you've never worn clip-ons, start by buying a smaller pair and see how you like them. My experience with clip-ons has always been that they HURT after an hour or so. I usually just end up ripping them off. I wasn't allowed to get my ears pierced until I was 12 so I wore clip-ons and I hated them. My ears are pierced now so I don't worry so much about clip-ons, but my grandmother left me a few beautiful pairs that I've tried to wear over the past few years and just the same as when I was a kid, I just want to yank them off almost immediately. It sucks because they're so pretty.

So before you commit, I'd find a basic pair on Amazon or somewhere so you can see if you like the way they feel. Smiley heart

Thanks! I'm thinking about the last pair shown based on other people saying the other ones might be too heavy. The small pair is $18 + shipping so I feel like that's an OK gamble for me - if I don't like them I don't have to wear them and then I know exactly how those exact earrings will feel.

When you take off clip-ons do they usually leave an indent in your ear? I was thinking I could just wear them for the ceremony and remove them for the rest of the night, that way I'm not thinking about them or focused on them.

I don't know about an indentation, but mine would always be bright red after I took them off, and a little swollen. Not sure if that lasted too long, though. $18 isn't bad at all! Try them out now and then you'll know for day-of. :-)

I’ve had an issue finding clips on or magnetic earrings that go with my dress so I was actually planning on getting this pair of normal earrings off Etsy and cutting off the prongs and gluing the magnets or clips.

I'd honestly rather get my ears pierced than wear clip-ons. My experience has been that they hurt. My friend bought them for bridesmaids for her wedding (by mistake) and we wore them and by the end of the night my ears were red and sore. I've had my ears pierced on and off since I was about 7...I've let them close up several times but it's nice to have pierced ears for certain occasions.

They look beautiful, but I would worry about your ears hurting! Maybe just wear them for the ceremony and photos and then take them off for the reception?

I contemplating wearing clip-on earrings since it seemed like the type of thing I should wear earrings for but I ultimately decided not to. I knew I wouldn't be able to keep them on all day (even the most comfortable ones I've worn never lasted all day) and it felt too un-me to be wearing earrings when I never wear them any other times.

The ones you shared are really pretty though, and if you think they'd help complete your look more go for it!

Yea I don't think I've ever worn them for more than a few minutes, so didn't know if they would be unbearable or not. I definitely don't feel like I need to have ear jewelry and am not even considering having my ears pierced. Sounds like a lot of people think they aren't worth the hassle!

That was my thought, because I think they would bother me if I left them on for a long time and imagine they wouldn't hold up to me dancing.

Thanks Meghan! It's good to hear from a bride in a similar situation. I haven't worn clip-ons before but they sound pretty uncomfortable by most accounts, and I do think it might suddenly be weird to suddenly have them. I may just skip ear jewelry in favor of a more decorative hair comb or hair accessory. I want to look beautiful and bridal, but also like my authentic self and hair decorations seem to make more sense when I think about it that way.
