Civil Ceremonies in Northern Virginia?

Maggie, on June 29, 2019 at 2:20 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4
Hey All!

We’re getting married in Loudoun County and our friend is performing the secular ceremony for us on our wedding day but we know that Virginia doesn’t accept online ordinations so that doesn’t take care of the legal part.

We were wondering if anyone local had experience with or had a plan for having someone coming to the venue and doing a marriage certificate signing to take care of the legal piece on the day? We’d love some recommendations.

I would reach out to the clerk's office to see if they can give you a list of retired judges, JOPs, and other civil servants who could solemnize the marriage.

We tried to do that and they sent us a list (with completely outdated contact information) and the woman at the office basically said “you’re on your own. Go find a pastor.” 😩 Since we live so close to DC, it’s easy to forget that Virginia is solidly the Bible Belt sometimes.

We are getting married in Loudoun County as well. I found an officiant on here to marry us. The list they provided from the court house did seem very old and outdated. I didn’t try anyone on there.

So we have an officiant (our friend). We just need someone to do the actual certificate signing part to make it legal. When I looked at all the officiants on here (and reached out to them) none of them were interested in not doing the whole shebang. We just need like 15-20 minutes of someone’s time to sign a piece of paper and wanted to do it on our actual wedding day. My FH and I are finding the $200+ price tags we’ve been quoted impossible to swallow.
