City Parking!

Anna, on July 24, 2020 at 11:20 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

I'm having an intimate wedding in NYC for about 25 guests. I can anticipate that maybe half of them will want to drive into the city and park for the day. Has anyone navigated parking a group of people in a city? My dream would be if parking garages do "parking blocks" the same way hotels do room blocks, but I don't think that exists.

Should I try to finesse a prepaid deal with a parking garage? Has anyone heard of purchasing gift cards or vouchers? Or having guests bill to one account? I've lived in the city for years and have my own car here, so I know parking can be intimidating, and I want my guests to have an easy experience.

You can maybe look into things like SpotHero or look up the nearest parking garage and see if it's one of the bigger ones like Icon or the other one who's name I can't remember off the top of my head. I know if you go online ahead of time, they often have coupons so maybe they may be able to give you a group rate with a code or something.

New York city and parking.... YIKES.... I'd definitely call around to a couple of parking locations / garages and seek out parking in advance. Ask if you can either prepay their parking or for sure get a guaranteed block. It doesn't hurt. You might even try so close by hotels to the venue. That would probably be easiest.

I think it’s a good idea to call the nearest parking garage and see if you can negotiate some kind of voucher or event parking with them

I would look into SpotHero and reserve spaces for your guests ahead of time.

They have apps like Parkwhiz (I'm sure there are others) where you can reserve spots in advance in a ton of areas. Maybe it would be best for you to just pay for that & reserve 10+ spots for everyone nearby? Then work it out with the parking garage?

Could they park outside the city and take the ferry/PATH/train in?

Smiley heart I had a friend suggest that too! She said her organization is able to do vouchers all the time in Northern Virginia. I'll have to give that a try, thank you

I haven't tried SpotHero before; I've been skeptical of how well it can actually work in this city... maybe it's easier for garages as opposed to street parking?

Smiley heart They're definitely not going to want to navigate that, but it's certainly an option. Thanks!
