City Hall Weddings for Second Marriage??

Patti, on February 21, 2014 at 11:21 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi Ladies! I just got engaged on Valentine's Day - one week ago - so I'm new on here. Smiley smile Anyway, this will be a second marriage for both of us, so we do not need or want all the "bells and whistles" which usually goes with a first marriage........my issue is this: we want to have a low key ceremony and have the "reception/party" the next day. We were thinking Philadelphia City Hall, but it just seems so........cold or clinical or something. Does anyone from the Philadelphia/Bucks County, PA area have any alternate suggestions on maybe another county courthouse, or even a JP working out of his home or something? We want the quick, civil ceremony, but something that has a little "charm" to it. Thanks for your help!

I'm not from that area but we are doing something sort of similar. We are having a very small ceremony with just family and a big reception the next day. Our ceremony will be in a sitting room of a local B&B. It's really cute and full of antiques so we can just show up and get married and not have to decorate. It's only about $300 for a couple hours' use as well so we are doing pictures there too.

Maybe look into that? Otherwise you might be able to find a private room in a restaurant or something like that. I know there are some where I'm from that you can get married in (and then have a nice dinner afterwards if you wanted). Just some ideas!

What about a garden party with just a few close friends and family and having a JOP come marry you there? Sorry, I don't know the area though.

Hi! there are great courthouses in both Bucks and Montgomery County, but it sounds like Montco (Norristown) might fit your bill!

ETA: The county courthouse in Doylestown (Bucks) is nice, but I wouldn't exactly call it "charming"

Thanks for the great suggestions so far, ladies. Smiley smile I think a courthouse would probably suit our needs the best, but as I said, Philly City Hall is about as unromantic as you can get, from what I've heard. KATE: were you married at the Montco Courthouse?

I've seen the Bucks County Courthouse from the outside before....and as far as "charming," maybe I should have said "a place that has a little character."

We got married in my BFF's house and went to a restaurant for lunch with my BFF, son, pastor and his wife, and others. Was not too bad. We originally was going to JOP

I live in bucks county! Woot woot! I know from my experience, my husband and I were married in a court house he's military and is leaving for a few months so we wanted the paper work in with the navy before hand. We are having a huge wedding tho.. Sept 27!

Anyway... Wherever you go you won't have an a appointment so you'll basically be waiting till they have time for you. You also have to call and see who can and is able to marry you. I believe that was part of our issue not everyone could...

This is all from my experience of that day lol

Honestly your better off having an officiant or jop come out to you to marry you. Maybe at your BBQ? That way your not so stressed.
