City Hall Ceremony

Susanna, on February 10, 2020 at 4:43 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 7
Have any couples here just decided to get married at city hall and have a nice reception instead of a huge ceremony and reception? Are you happy with your decision? Why/why not?

We are planning on doing an elopement ceremony with some close friends and then a larger party at a later date. Is the ceremony due to not wanting eyes on you?

My fiance isn't one to want a lot of eyes on him and it makes me a little nervous so have so many people looking. I guess I'm mostly wondering if it will really significantly change the price.

We were thinking about eloping for budget purposes but then hubby felt like he’d regret not having a big wedding so we increased the budget and pushed the date back.

Oh there won't be, Remember that the ceremony isn't the expensive part it is the reception. It is not uncommon to have a private ceremony and a larger reception.

Yes. Happy with it because there were bigger priorities that my money needed to go to. Such as my student loan debt, savings for a house downpayment

Typically the reception is the expensive part. So, if you have a small ceremony at the courthouse and then a large reception, it'll cost the same as any other wedding unfortunately.

I agree with Nicole. The reception is more expensive then the ceremony or at least in my case and everyone i know that has been marrieds case. My ceremony with minister and decor included is around $1500 and my reception with food, alcohol, and decor is $18k. I originally thought about eloping and then having a big reception but i decided i wanted everyone who has been their with us through our relationship to get to witness our love and becoming husband and wife.
