Church wedding and outdoor ceremony too much?

Carmen222, on March 16, 2022 at 8:31 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
We have booked a lovely reception location with a gorgeous outdoor ceremony site but as a catholic the priest has to do the service inside the church. Has anyone done both? The church would hold the ceremony at 10am because that’s the only opening available for the date we chose. At venue, the ceremony would be at 6pm followed cocktails hours, reception etc. It’s a big time gap. Thoughts?

Could you do the catholic ceremony with just immediate family/witnesses and then the outdoor ceremony in the evening with everyone else?

Caitlin, you are spot on. That's exactly what I'm leaning towards.

That's too big of a gap. Etiquette-wise, you're hosting one event, meaning you're responsible for the guests from the start of the ceremony until the end of the reception.

You could do a lunch/brunch event as your reception after the ceremony?

You could have immediate family only at the ceremony, one caution though, it has to be a tiny percentage of everyone at the wedding. You don't want to hurt feelings.

That would be the best solution ! And also, you can be sure that there will be a lot of emotions for your guests. If they see two ceremonies, 2x vows, 2x a kiss, they might be less into it ;-) That being said, I dit 2 ceremonies for all of my guests, but it was city hall and church 1h later.

I was thinking the same as Jacks in that could you do a lunch/brunch reception? You could still get some amazing food for that time of day and it may even be cheaper as you wouldn't need canapes and cocktail hour probably.
