Church Decor - Balloons?

TeamUs, on November 14, 2014 at 9:25 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 14

Hi Brides :-)

I am thinking about using tulle covered balloons in white and/or the large white balloons for the outside of the church. Is this tacky? Are balloons over kill? Your thoughts are appreciated! I really love the tulle covered ones by the way....I am sure I can use these somewhere for the reception.

While I do like the balloons covered with tulle (my mom fell in love with the same photo and now wants to do it at the bridal shower) I just don't think they belong at a wedding, even as pretty as they look in that photo

I think the giant ones like that are nice. The small birthday balloons are tacky.

With maltese on that, they have a place at a shower but not at a wedding. I can just see the pinterest fail that could come with that first pic

I think it depends on the general feel of your wedding. Is it more relaxed? Is it casual? If so, I think balloons would add to that feel. But if you are going for a more elegant look, I'd have to agree with Maltese that the balloons will not go well. It sounds like you really love them, though. I think it all depends on what you are aiming for!

I too love the look of tulle covered balloons. I think they would look great at a bridal shower. And maybe at your wedding if it is really casual. If you are having a more formal wedding, I would say it just doesn't go.

I think Balloons can be a great option to Church decor. I know there are a lot of churches that don't allow too much decoration.

I second the idea of larger balloons as opposed to smaller balloons.

I have seen this option, which might help you find a more "formal" way to anchor the balloons (see attached photo).

My only concern would be walking past balloons (if they are aisle decorations) and any static cling that result

One thing to keep in mind, make sure you have no guests allergic to latex. (Which is way more common than you think). If my mom were to walk into a building with balloons near the aisle and stuff she wouldn't be able to stay.

I agree with the other posters about not using small balloons.

I think it would depend on what style your church is and the overall feel of the wedding. I don't think they would have a place inside the church, but the tulle covered ones may look great outside.

No, I think balloons are kind of tacky. There are probably tasteful/artsy ways to do them, but I wouldn't personally.

Like some of the other ladies said, it depends on the feel of your wedding. I like upside down balloons, where they put a marble in the balloon to weigh it down (helium filled).

Personally, i wouldn't use them; they would be way too much work and i would worry about them popping which would drive me CRAZY!

I love the first picture. I'd do a test run before I got my heart set on anything though...like Emmy said I can just see them turning out horribly lol.

Thank you all so much for the opinions. I was thinking about putting them outside of the church at the end of the gates but will find something else lol. I have been going back and forth about church decor, I think I will table this until I knock some of the other stuff off my list. Thanks again!!!

I agree with Staci. Do a test run to see how they look in person before you decide anything.

We did a balloon release immediately after our ceremony in honor of my mother who passed away a few years ago... sending the celebration up to the heavens. Nobody thought it was tacky. Even people that never knew my mother were touched by the gesture and tearing up. It was beautiful. I can see why some of you ladies might think that balloons at a wedding might be tacky, but I know that they can be incorporated in a beautiful way.
