Christmas Card etiquette - newly married - name issues

Laura, on December 15, 2020 at 11:04 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

I am trying to figure out how to share that we have all moved and our names don't match. Here's an idea of what I am up against:

Laura Ann Smith Johnson

Brice Johnson

Son Johnson

Son Roberts

Son 2 Roberts

Mr. and Mrs. Jonhnson leaves out all the kids. But, they live with us. The Johnson Family doesn't work because it leaves out the non-Johnson kids. Should it be the Smith Johnson Family?

You could just list your first names rather than your last names so it isn't as confusing.

I agree with this suggestion, the others seems too complicated.

Yes, the previous poster's suggestion fit best.

Just list first names. Usually last names are only listed with the return address.

I don’t share the same name as my oldest anymore so our Christmas cards always just say our first names.

I'd go with first names. I didn't change my name, so my husband and I have different last names. If we have kids, the kids will have his last name while the pets will keep my last name. We're just a family of three now (him, me, our dog) so going by first names is easiest for us.

If listing all the first names is too long "Mr. & Mrs. Johnson and Family" could work too, but I prefer listing all first names because gives everyone equal weight and doesn't give the adults more importance by having their names listed separately than the kids all lumped together.

So... Address labels? Maybe, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and family ... Inside all the first names?

Sorry. To make this more clear, I wanted address labels too. So, it seems those should read: Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and family, street, etc. My Christmas cards, though, should read our first names. Is that the consensus??

Yes that makes the most sense. You use that format for other occasions where you have correspondence from the entire family.
