Christian/Religous singing music

Andrea, on December 6, 2016 at 2:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

I am just kind of wanting some good song ideas for the unity candle/sand. I am having a lot of Disney themed songs for the bridal party/parents, but for that I was wanting someone to sing a Christian song. But was wondering if you all have any good suggestions for pretty songs someone can sing! (he can sing anything) Thank you so much

Are you suggesting that your FH is going to sing at your ceremony? If you are, there are some good reasons to rethink that (high emotion on his part, nerves, and it can be a little awkward for the guests). No offense intended.

We had someone sing "When I say I do" by Matthew West. I LOVE that song and just had to have it somewhere in the ceremony.

The unity candle/sand ceremony takes about thirty seconds, so keep that in mind. You don't want to finish them awkwardly have to stare at each other until the song is over.

If you really want a hymn, how about Blessed Be the Tie That Binds? Whomever is singing can just do one verse

I Will Be Here by Steven Curtis Chapman is lovely. Have all the singing you want. I'm a musician, and part of a choir. Friends of mine, from the choir will be singing at our wedding.

I second what PPs have said about using only one verse because the candle ceremony doesn't take much time.

Here are some selections that would work:

"Peace Before Us" I would recommend verse 2 which substitutes the word Love for the word Peace: (Love before us, love behind us, love under our feet, love within us love over us, let all around us be love)

"The Servant Song" (Will you let me be your servant, let me be as Christ to you? Pray that I may have the grace to let you be my servant too.)

FYI For most Christian weddings we always have some type of singing.

Normally during the lighting of the unity candle some one sings the Lord's Prayer

You don't need a song for the candle lighting or sand. The talking part might take 30 seconds and the actual lighting/pouring another ten.

And cueing music in mid ceremony is really awkward; it's a rare musician who can make that work.

Dij - I think the use of a soloist in Christian ceremonies is becoming a thing of the past in some areas. I am from a conservative relatively small town in Texas and back home almost all wedding ceremonies have someone sing during the unity candle. In the larger cities, instrumental music is commonly played that way they can fade out as soon as the lighting of the candle is done. Even as a Christian, I find it very awkward to sit and watch the couple stand there looking at each other while the soloist finishes singing for the next few minutes after the candle is lit.

Denomination also plays a role in whether or not there will be singing.

I am using "Holy (Wedding Day)" by City Harmonic. after we put together our unity cross we will pray with our pastors and bridal party ... this way we won't have 3 minutes of awkwardness after we assemble the unity cross haha Smiley smile

I've lived in the Bible Belt my whole 27 years and I've sang a hymn/Christian song at one wedding.

It's wedding not another Sunday service. I really don't think it's the thing to do anymore. I personally think all the standing, sitting. singing involved is annoying.

I love singing at weddings and I don't think it's weird at all. She's not saying a congregational song. No one is sitting or standing. it sounds to me like a wedding singer would sing something.

Listen to Bethel Music's albums. Their arrangement of It is Well is stunning!

@originalKD I totally agree denomination plays a big role in this. However it also deals with background as well as how religious or non religious you want a ceremony. I'm a worshiper and so is FH. One way we worship is through song. So that wouldn't be out of the norm. I for one enjoy the song after the candle is lit. Maybe because I come from a family of singers.if we are at a wedding and there is absolutely no singing we consider it dry from where I'm from.

We're having a religious ceremony and will be doing a hand washing ceremony that we've timed at about 2 minutes, we're not having a soloist but we are going to queue Oceans by Hillsong during that part of the ceremony.

We are doing 'my everything' by Todd Dulaney. This will be so meaningful for us too since we too are religious. My sister who is a professional singer will be singing for us. Go for it OP.

My good friend will be singing "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing"! It was really important to me to have a song of worship. The last two weddings I went to were Christian (outdoor ceremony) and had someone sing a solo during the ceremony and they were both done beautifully. Some other suggestions:

    Hymns:

    Amazing Grace

    How Great Thou Art

    Contemporary songs:

    Divine Romance - Phil Wickham

Love Never Fails - Brandon Heath

Love Is Not A Fight - Warren Barfield
