Christian/Biblical Marriage Devotional Books

danilaughs, on October 25, 2017 at 5:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

I'm looking for suggestions for pre-marriage devotionals/workbooks we can do together. I'm looking for something biblical, but am open to secular suggestions as well. We enjoy reading together before bed, so I thought this might be a nice new thing to do.

Dr. Henry Cloud's Boundaries in Marriage is really good. I *think* there might be a workbook for this book.

@Soozie, we've done the love language tests online. Is it worth it to go through the book as well?

I second the 5 love languages. I definitely think the book is worth it.

My FH and I did Prologue! It's an online pre marriage curriculum. We both enjoyed it. It also utilizes the 5 love languages!

Catching Foxes. It's our premarital book, with reading and questions, though we stopped doing it like last month because we don't have time.

The best best Christian book for marriage is "you and me forever, marriage in light of eternity" by Francis Chan and his wife (author of crazy love). Our pastor had us read this momentary marriage but I found you and he forever to be a lot more compelling, convicting, and straightforward. It also has activities which is cool!!

Right now, we're reading Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas. There are discussion questions on his website that we've been going through together once a week and it's really great! We're starting pre-marital counseling next month, so hoping for a few more recommendations then!

Me and my FH are planning on buying "Love that Lasts" by Alyssa and Jeff Bethke! They are such an awesome, Godly couple and we have done their "31 creative ways to love and encourage him/her" series and loved it! (I'd recommend that as well). Their Love that Lasts book is only $11 on Amazon! They have workbooks and a video series as well if you are wanting a full package type of thing.

My pastor is going to be walking us through "Saving your Marriage before it Starts" as our pre-marital counseling guide.

So, I loved Amoris Laetitia, the new book on love by Pope Francis. But it definitely isn't for everybody (and it's controversial within the Catholic church as well). It branches out way beyond married love, but it's thought-provoking.

Also another recommendation for the Five Love Languages book. We went through it while H was deployed and it really helped our communication.
