Choreographed First Dance?

Jody, on July 19, 2018 at 12:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
Is anyone doing this? We decided to do one for our first dance, mainly because I don't think there is anything quite so boring as watching two people sway around the dance floor while the room watches, lol.

We signed up for dance lessons and my guy is working on creating a special mash-up song. We won't go too crazy and I told him we need to keep the dance under three minutes. I'm excited as it will be a surprise to our guests and hopefully will be a fun moment for everyone!

FH wants to do a swing dance since our theme is 50's. But he is already doing a choreographed dance with our oldest, and his mom. And my father daughter dance cant be choreographed because we live in different states so I told him I didnt want my dad to feel left out..

We are going to take dance lessons! I'm not sure about choreographed though. We are going to dance to an upbeat country swing song, and we know basic swing but would like to be better!

Even on Dancing with the Stars they keep the dances to under 90 seconds -- I'd aim for something much shorter than 3 minutes. Your DJ can adjust the song length for you. I went to a family wedding where the couple did a choreographed first dance the full-length of the song and it was painful and cringe-worthy after a while (it didn't help that they also did full-length mother-son, father-daughter, and mother-daughter dances -- so, literally, at least 12 minutes of "spotlight" dances). I think taking dance lessons sounds fun, but I'd still keep it pretty short & simple!

Exciting!! Go for it! We are swing dancing (it will be our entrance also) since our theme is part of the jazz era!

I have seen that too. I think some couples might feel uncomfortable if they don't normally like to dance and if they don't practice enough. We are both pretty good dancers and plan to practice daily once we take a few lessons and figure out the choreography.

I do agree on keeping it shorter. It will probably be closer to two minutes than three. I have seen some that appear to go on foreverrrrrr and we definitely don't want to torture our guests with that, lol!!!

Hi Jody! I have seen this a lot lately and I love it! I think it's such a fun way to surprise your guests and make the first dance a little more fun and upbeat! Do you know what kind of songs the DJ is putting into the mashup yet?

My guy is actually creating it, he's using a couple apps he found. We are doing a mash up of a remix we found of Wouldn't it be nice by The Beach Boys, I Got You by Duke Dumont and Roses by the Chainsmokers. He is taking pieces of all three and weaving them into one song, so there won't be any awkward starts and stops with the music.

What kind of songs are you including in the mashup? Favorites of you and your fiancé? A certain genre? Smiley smile

We are kinda doing this, more we are planning on learning ballroom and just dancing like we would at one of the period balls that are thrown around historical figures big "birthdays" (John Hancock is throwing a rocking party for his 275th birthday this year). I've already mixed our music using Audacity (its a free music editing software that is really easy to use) so it is a typical slow waltz. It will be a bit longer but we feel the message in the music is too much us and our venue is long and narrow so we will start at one end and move to the other so everyone gets an equal view.
