Choosing a Venue

Looking for some tips/advice, anything will help! We got engaged back in December, and at first we just enjoyed the moment and didn't rush right into wedding planning. Finally in February we started looking into venues, I majorly overwhelmed myself which has caused nothing but stress for me in this process. Everyone always talks about enjoying the process, and so far I have not, but wish that I could start. I have toured a ton of venues, and without exaggerating I mean over 30+. Unless I am decided on something & strongly opinionated on it I tend to be a bit indecicive. I have decided on my wedding party, colors, type of ceremony, type of meals, etc.; though I just can't pick a venue! I feel any of them could be perfect for our wedding day!

As of now, I have it narrowed down to 4, but am having a hard time choosing between the 4. I tried taking dates into consideration; initially I was hoping for September 2021; though with Covid a lot of that has been impacted. I also am slightly nervous, I do not want to put myself in the place that the poor 2020 brides have been put into, I can't imagine being in their place right now! So I am nervous if 2021 will be a definite, or if I should just bump out to 2022 to be safe. I really want to be able to have all of our guests, and am hoping for minimal restrictions. However 2022 is so far away, and I want my grandmother to be a part of my day, though she is getting older. So bottom line I am so overwhelmed and confused with what I want, please help! I am hoping once this decision is made I know to approach decisions differently and will be able to enjoy and not overwhelm myself with the remainder of the planning process!

If I had to pick any of them, I would probably pick the one that gives you the option of four different caterers. That seems like the least problematic to me. Two weddings in one day would make me way too nervous, putting off the wedding for two years is way too long, and one with bad reviews sounds has trouble written all of it. I would look at the catering decision as a fun way to try all different foods rather than another thing you have to decide on.

I too was in your shoes once. I just took it one step at a time and did some research. I would advise getting a wedding planner. They help so much. If I didn't do my research and reach out to venues, I would have never chose mine. We are on a bit of a budget and having a small wedding so all of thr venues I wanted were over budget. However, the one we chose we can still have an amazing wedding. The owners told me about their company where they plan your wedding for you (you get an input and say in what you want and they do it for you. All you do is pay them monthly and show up to get married) It is all inclusive and they pick vendors for you (we worked with one to get our engagement photos done who we asked to take our wedding photos) and it is just taking all the stress away. I wouldn't have found this if I didn't do my research.

Moral of the story is, do what you and your fiance feel comfortable with. It is about you guys after all. My nana is getting older as well and our wedding is March 2021. We are concerned as well but hope it won't be a problem.

    I'm so glad!

Yeah, my FH says the same thing. He knows he's done this before, and I haven't, so he wants me to have my dream wedding. His only stipulation was that he wants to help pick the music. Fine with me!

We got to 60 days out when we realized we would have to postpone. So, that was really hard. But now that we're past that, and only 341 days to go, I have almost everything done. I'm just kicking back, enjoying the idea of it now, since there's nothing more to do until the invitations go out.

I hope you have the wedding of your dreams too!

So a few things that may help you consider:
    1. Photography was super important to me because it’s what’s left after the wedding is over so I made sure my venue would have availability when my photographer was available.
    2. We picked our venue based on the size. It was the only venue I came across that was large enough to have the reception and ceremony inside if it rained without flipping the venue. I know a lot of people flip, but I’m pretty strongly against it because it seems like unnecessary stress to me. 3. Create a comparison list with what all is offered/included and the total price for the final venues you’re interested in. (Chairs, tables, rehearsal, getting ready area for the bride and groom, decor, is security required, is insurance required, etc)

Thank you so much! Definitely some things we will consider, I also do not love the flipping concept.

Yes we did! I found 1 I hadn't actually toured yet, and toured yesterday and loved it! The Wychmere Beach Club!
